Assassin's Creed III Season Pass Details

Turns out the Assassin's Creed III season pass mentioned in passing earlier turns out to apply to the Windows edition of Ubisoft's upcoming stealth/action sequel, as reflected in these details they've announced about the deal, which also unveil some tidbits on the DLC itself:
As the revolution comes to a close, a new and most unexpected enemy emerges. Driven by the desire to secure the fate of the colonies, the greatest hero of the revolution, George Washington, succumbs to the temptation of infinite power. The new King is born and his reign leaves no one untouched. To return freedom to the land our new hero must dethrone a tyrant he once called friend. Today, Ubisoft announces the Assassin's Creed III Season Pass offer, granting access to all five upcoming downloadable content packs to gamers owning the original game on PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Microsoft's Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, and Windows PC.

Assassin's Creed III downloadable content will feature "The Tyranny of King Washington," an all-new single-player campaign told through three episodic content packs that lets gamers experience an alternate history of the events following the American Revolution.

"History is our playground - and AC teams have always loved playing with historical facts and their consequences as a way to better understand a time period," said Sebastien Puel, Executive Producer at Ubisoft. "While Assassin's Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things 'could have happened.'"

In addition to this all-new single player experience, Assassin's Creed III downloadable content will feature new maps and characters for an even more expansive multiplayer experience.

Assassin's Creed III Season Pass will be available for purchase for 2400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE or $29.99 on the PlayStationNetwork. It can be pre-ordered at GameStop and Best Buy.

The Assassin's Creed III Season Pass releases within six months after the game launch at a 25% savings over the individual pack prices. Also, Season Pass owners will have access to the first downloadable content pack one week before other gamers.

All Assassin's Creed III Downloadable Content will also be available for the Wii UTM.

I love Season Passes, but only for games I know I'm going to want to keep playing. I'm probably going to pass on this since I imagine more than 25% of the DLC is going to be multiplayer and as much as I enjoy the multiplayer, I can't really put the time into it to keep up with the community.

Are there really people who pay for that shit?

There's a bunch of people who pay for that shit and eat it up with a spoon. At the prices they're charging for a bit of extra content, it doesn't matter if only a fraction of their customers buy it, it's still profitable. There's enough people with either no care for their money or extreme amounts of it to justify selling "season passes".

Yeah, I am waiting on the GOTY version of Borderlands 2 for that reason.

I will say that when you do finally get it, I think you'll have a blast. I'm about 30 hours in and only have one character, so far...it's what the first Borderlands should have been, in my opinion.

On PC, you could have gotten Borderlands 2 + the season pass for less than $60.

I love the way you pay $60 for the game, and now the DLC is up to half that price (I'm looking at you too, Borderlands).

How do these people not see that when they do this, it just encourages people to wait a year, and get the GOTY edition with everything for $30?

Yeah, I am waiting on the GOTY version of Borderlands 2 for that reason. A couple of other releases as well. Some I am skipping all together. Too many games competing for my time and money for me as the consumer to rationalize dropping 90+ dollars on any one game...even if its spread out over a month or two. My game backlog is so crowded I am fairly sure that if I didn't buy another game between now and when the B2 GOTY edition was released...I would still have games on my backlog to finish up.

Also..this season pass stuff can fuck off. Despite all of its flaws, I am a die hard Madden addict but I ain't paying EA money so they can keep me on a targeted marketing list with a direct connection to my console/PC. Now, if I won't give EA Sports money for that despite having been playing Madden for like 20+ years, I sure as hell am not going to do it for any other random game...regardless of how popular it might be at this given time. I mean, overpriced DLC with a minimal discount given to you for doing a paid membership? What a scam.

Are there really people who pay for that shit?

How about tossing in all of the various retailer-specific pre-order crap in one convenient package, along with whatever DLC you're going to release later? I remember reading RPS' run-down of the dozen or so different content configurations among the about half that many different SKUs sold at various price points all over the world...

Yep, either that or just don't buy it at all. If significant game content is withheld at release, it is much more productive to look elsewhere. There are plenty of wonderful options on the PC this Fall that don't need that kind of BS to succeed.

Uh, plus it's lolUbisoft. No thanks.

Enough with this season's pass crap already!

The DLC has DLC this time. Amazing.
