Guild Wars 2 Patched

The Guild Wars 2 Forum offers notes for a new patch that went live today in ArenaNet's MMORPG sequel (thanks Acleacius). Here are is the change list for the new version:

  • Fixed blocked events and skill challenges.
  • Fixed bugs that allowed players to go around map edges.
  • A number of items created by using Mystic Coins are now correctly set to level 80.

Story

  • Fixed a blocking bug in story chapter “Brute Force.”
  • Fixed a blocking bug in story chapter “Research and Destroy.”
  • Fixed bugs in story chapters “Forging the Pact,” “Battle of Fort Trinity," "The Ghost Rite,” “On Red Alert,” and “Tower Down.”

  • Stonemist Castle points reduced to 35 points from 50.
  • Bonus thresholds reduced by half to prepare for one-week matches.
  • Castle lord, bodyguards, and capture point for Stonemist Castle moved to the first floor.
  • “Harpy Feathers” consumable effect disabled.
  • Bridges fixed to make passable for NPCs.

Professions

Ranger

  • More fixes to pet commands and AI.

Elementalist

  • Signet of Air: No longer has infinite range.
  • Whirlpool: Now works underwater in PvE.
  • Glyph of Renewal: Resurrection effects of Earth, Fire, and Water now surround the caster, not the target.

Mesmer

  • Deception: Movement now allowed after casting underwater.
  • Spatial Surge: Improved responsiveness.
  • Mind Stab: Improved responsiveness.

Warrior

  • Made several more skills usable while moving: Brutal Banner, Compassionate Banner, and Furious Rally.

Guardian

  • Mighty Blow: Added a slight movement distance.
  • Bow of Truth: Now usable while moving.
  • Defender’s Shield and Honorable Shield: Merged together into the same trait.
  • New trait Glacial Heart: Critical hits with a hammer have a 50% chance to chill your target for 4 seconds. This effect can only occur once every 45 seconds.

Thief

  • Heartseeker: Reduced damage of the 100%-50% threshold by 20%. Damage thresholds changed. Old: 100%-66%, 66%-33%, 33%-0%. New: 100%-50%, 50%-25%, 25%-0%.

Engineer

  • Disabled the “stowing” auto-attack to prevent players from getting stuck holding these kits: Bomb Kit, Elixir Gun, Flamethrower, Grenade Kit, Med Kit, and Tool Kit.

Err, explaining what something is instead of just "you do it by pushing this button" is probably more useful hence my post but whatever you're clearly just interested in verbal sniping and vague "info" posts.

Axis is right that people should have discovered these things through their own experimentation, but you can't expect everyone to have played a ridiculous amount of hours, done lots of research, tested every nuance, etc. I, too, put in a lot of hours, but I am free with my knowledge and happy to help people.

Combos have two components: fields, and finishers. The type of field affects what happens, as does the type of finisher. Here's a very old link that nevertheless gives a pretty succinct summary:

http://www.shadowrefuge.com/2012/06/cross-profession-combos-closer-look.html

Also, the wiki does give a table of information:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo

You can combo with yourself. In fact, it's a pretty crucial aspect of gameplay, which is why Axis is being snide about it. Admittedly a lot of players seem to overlook it and it is glaring, but the game is still pretty new. I personally go out of my way to teach people but I also know that tends to be frowned on to some degree because newbs will never learn unless left to their own devices (or some other nonsense).

Haha good lord you're deluded, it's like Derek Smart meets WoW Raider. I'll be the first person to admit I don't know everything there is to know in the game, you're the buffoon claiming to know everything and be the sole proprietor of information related to the game.

2) I ask "Combo Field? So I need someone else to help?"

The wiki has a pretty readable explanation but people have made some handy charts you can print. The basics are pretty easy to grasp though. In this case our resident Confucius is referring mainly to weakness I assume (hes very vague) for the glancing blows, certainly helpful but not essential to group composition.

There you go again editing your comment after hurridly reading through posts just to try to act like you know this.

I give a shit less if you appreciate information, but if you shit on me you can expect nothing less than shit back.

Uh, no you didn't (I'm familiar with most shortbow builds having used it extensively to level and PvP) . Not like I care anyway, I'm not sure what you're looking for here but people aren't going to tongue your butt because you posted information on the internet.

Anyways enough of this farce. If you want to help people then great, help out but don't expect hero worship or post snarky YOUR WELCOME GUYZZ.

To answer an earlier post:

Can’t say I understand or agree with the Thief getting nerfed at all

There was this (partially correct) perception that a lot of Thieves were just spamming Heartseeker in PvP without putting a lot of thought into other abilities. I didn't think it was a huge deal personally as I think those people are easily dealt with once you survive the initial burst but a lot of people complained so I assume the change is in response to that.

So who is the asshole?
A. The guy giving information people do not know about that could help immensely and says it with confidence? (this is me)
B. The guy who acts like he knew it all along and shits on the person giving it? (this is verno)
C. Obama.

I choose C, but I'm pretty sure B fits the bill most of the time. But I'm certain B will pick A, such is life!

You won't be doing condition dmg to get event loot kills in pve, especially once a warrior is around. Hell most people don't even know how loot actually works - I do.

Any fucktard that listens to GW2 podcasts knows this information...talk about regurgitating

Hey angry gamer, how does the Thief get Area Weakness? How does loot work? you have 4 minutes to respond troll.

Yeah, it's annoying how basically every class can deal with 3+ mobs without too many issues, but a Thief has to struggle down to their last pip of health to survive.

Thief gets really boned on condition heavy enemies especially but thankfully there are some support skills to alleviate that. I like the stealth design but feel like its missing something, can't quite put my finger on it.

Riiiiight ok there fella Joker

Can’t say I understand or agree with the Thief getting nerfed at all. I love playing the stealth classes, but the thief to me felt like I get my ass kicked way too much. Does not do enough damage and was constantly having to run from fights.

My Warrior on the other hand dishes out damage like its going out of style. I can usually take on three mobs easily and win. That you cannot do with the Thief.

If anything the thief should be getting more damage added.

I've made a Necro alt to dick around with in sPvP and I have to say I'm very impressed with their survivability. Their burst seems really lacking but it doesn't really matter when you can 1v3 until others arrive. I'm anxious to see how I could do with one in WvW but leveling it for support skills/etc is so fucking boring, I think watching paint dry would honestly be more enjoyable.

I think it lasts too short. Even with the extra second added, four seconds is really not enough to get to safety, or to get into proper position. If I want to escape a battle completely, I always wind up having to burn two stealths to be able to do so.

I also think the stealth attacks should just cause more damage. A stealth pistol attack is pathetic, and a stealth dagger attack does do a good chunk of damage, but you wind up having to use both a skill for it, AND get into melee range as a glass cannon build. Same kinda goes for the sword.

It wasn't really until I started focusing on Blind as my main form of attack that I was able to start cutting through stuff without having to constantly just burn my entire arsenal.

I still love the thief, but I get a little envious every time I see a Guardian or Warrior or Elementalist come in, and just fucking blast away a mob it takes me 10+ seconds to kill...

Ouch, that's a pretty hefty reduction on Heartseeker...

Creston

I'm not really concerned about this change. The issue I have with Thief is that its pretty fragile - classic glass cannon. Stealthing up and blinding is fine but there's no way to block anything.

Blind is the ultimate block. Except against Dredge, who are worthless piece of shit because they are immune against blind.

My problem with the heartseeker change is that it really was the only skill the thief has (in dagger) to deal with multiple mobs. Get one down really quickly by spamming heartseeker, then deal with the other mob.

Creston

Area weakness combo field is the only true survival tool, especially in dungeons - another relatively unknown you can thank me for.

Combo field? So I need someone else to help?

As for survival tool, eh, I have 3 different stealths. Four if I get the right Steal. It's not that hard staying alive, it's just hard to take down a group of varied mobs without going blasting through everything you have. For all how people keep saying Thief is about DPS, I never really seem to do as much burst damage as other classes, unless I use pistol whip.
