Guild Wars 2 Patched

The Guild Wars 2 Forum offers notes for a new patch that went live today in ArenaNet's MMORPG sequel (thanks Acleacius). Here are is the change list for the new version:

General

  • The Mistfire Wolf skill will now properly unlock for existing characters on an account after upgrading to Digital Deluxe.
  • Fixed blocked events and skill challenges.
  • Fixed bugs that allowed players to go around map edges.
  • A number of items created by using Mystic Coins are now correctly set to level 80.

Story

  • Fixed a blocking bug in story chapter “Brute Force.”
  • Fixed a blocking bug in story chapter “Research and Destroy.”
  • Fixed bugs in story chapters “Forging the Pact,” “Battle of Fort Trinity," "The Ghost Rite,” “On Red Alert,” and “Tower Down.”

World-versus-World

  • Score interval increased from 5 minutes to 15 minutes.
  • Stonemist Castle points reduced to 35 points from 50.
  • Bonus thresholds reduced by half to prepare for one-week matches.
  • Castle lord, bodyguards, and capture point for Stonemist Castle moved to the first floor.
  • “Harpy Feathers” consumable effect disabled.
  • Bridges fixed to make passable for NPCs.

Professions

Ranger

  • More fixes to pet commands and AI.

Elementalist

  • Signet of Air: No longer has infinite range.
  • Whirlpool: Now works underwater in PvE.
  • Glyph of Renewal: Resurrection effects of Earth, Fire, and Water now surround the caster, not the target.

Mesmer

  • Deception: Movement now allowed after casting underwater.
  • Spatial Surge: Improved responsiveness.
  • Mind Stab: Improved responsiveness.

Warrior

  • Made several more skills usable while moving: Brutal Banner, Compassionate Banner, and Furious Rally.
  • Rush: Improved the ability to hit fleeing foes.

Guardian

  • Mighty Blow: Added a slight movement distance.
  • Bow of Truth: Now usable while moving.
  • Defender’s Shield and Honorable Shield: Merged together into the same trait.
  • New trait Glacial Heart: Critical hits with a hammer have a 50% chance to chill your target for 4 seconds. This effect can only occur once every 45 seconds.

Thief

  • Heartseeker: Reduced damage of the 100%-50% threshold by 20%. Damage thresholds changed. Old: 100%-66%, 66%-33%, 33%-0%. New: 100%-50%, 50%-25%, 25%-0%.

Engineer

  • Disabled the “stowing” auto-attack to prevent players from getting stuck holding these kits: Bomb Kit, Elixir Gun, Flamethrower, Grenade Kit, Med Kit, and Tool Kit.

You can do some pretty cool stuff, I particularly like comboing off myself as a Mesmer, which I can either do with Null Field/Mirror Blade or Chaos Storm/weaponswitch to greatsword/Mirror Blade. There are others but I have come to enjoy the Staff and Greatsword the most so I use whats at my disposal. If you play with the same crew it becomes easy to do combos in dungeons, I'll just weaponswitch and place Chaos Storm around people so they can get projectile combos easy (applies stacks of confusion).

I loved Mesmer in the BWEs but I feel like the change to per-target illusions really hurt my interest in the class. To be fair I didn't play it very far so I'm not sure how much it hurts them in PvP but PvE I always feel like I'm just getting them all up then I'm moving on again.

Btw I swear I'm gonna login to the PS2 beta one of these days but we keep getting hit with great games back to back, is C22 fully active already?

Since I use Greatswords it's not too bad. I use the Greatsword Training trait in Domination (Reduces all 2H Ability cooldowns by 20%)plus the 5 trait point Illusionists Celerity (20% Illusion ability cooldown reduction) in Illusion. So 6 and 1/2 second cooldown on Mirror Blade and 16 second cooldown on Phantasmal Berserker which makes it very very easy to have 2 Illusions and the Phantasm on a target before it dies, in which case I usually just use Mind Wrack to finish their target off and damage anything else I'm fighting, and then quickly get all 3 Illusions up on the next target... Mind Wrack again... rinse repeat.

Theres a few people who play it a lot. Most of us are playing GW2 at the moment till PS2 goes full live. Beta is fun but when your progress doesn't matter it's hard to play for 4 or 5 hours a day like we did the original.

I'm just getting into it, kind of really liking it since it has so may possibilities. It is a bit overwhelming though - I'm just starting off with one weapon set and not thinking about combos yet. Basically fire = BBQ, water = support and heal, thunder = debuff, earth = defense. So far that's all I got.

Is engineer or ranger any good? I didnt like ranger in beta but maybe its changed.

I tried elementalist last night. Having the ability to shoot Palpatine-esque lightning was fun but when I saw they have 4 distinct skill bars for the elements (8 on weapon swap, yoiks) I stopped, that's too much for me to manage in my head right now.

My long/shortbow ranger is easy as pie though. Very soloable. I'm specced for damage, precision and pet damage and my eagle criticals easily. Combined with my tank bear I dish out good damage and rarely get hurt. All PvE still though, I imagine trap builds might be more useful for PvP but I haven't delved that far.

Elementalist does require significant keybind changes and/or (preferably) a MMO mouse. It's definitely not a DPS class, it's more of a control class and AoE class, keeping it mind it has a ton of potential combos. You dictate the battlefield, not decide it.

I'm rather fond of my ranger. It requires a lot of swapping and movement (moreso than other classes), but I find it a lot of fun, using a skirmish-heavy longbow/shortbow ranger. This gives you a lot of combo finishers so you need to pick up a few fields, luckily the 20-point major for skirmish is ground targetable and larger traps (switch options to ground target on cursor). In terms of difficulty, medium armor professions are mid-way between easy (heavy) and hard (light) professions, imho. Engineer is more of a support role.

I don't personally care for either class but I see a lot of Engineers doing crazy shit in PvP, particularly with grenade kits. A lot of people complain about pet health issues but I only leveled my Ranger to like 20 and I feel like you can't really get a feel for some classes until you trait heavily.

I've done purely PvE thus far and it hadn't really been necessary yet.

I certainly don't disagree with him as a policy, as I was an elitist in Vanilla World of Warcraft, but those days are behind me. What I disagree with is the fact it's Guild Wars 2. GW and GW2 are known for their uniquely cooperative communities (in contrast to other MMOs and similar online games), so I feel he is sending the wrong message about it. Now it seems he might have a non-related grudge or two, and that's also fine, but again, keep GW2 out of it, it tarnishes the rep of the community.

Yeah exactly. He asked what a combo field was and understanding the basics of that is more important than explaining to him how to create all of his individual class ones in detail. Not like this stuff was super secret hidden info either and even the most fervent players probably haven't memorized them all.

Wrong. What's more helpful is saying "choking gas then cluster bomb". that's how you get area weakness.

And please do ignore me, I'd prefer you not respond to me in the future.

It isn't well explained in game so expecting people to just automatically know is totally retarded, so many of them depend on interactions with other classes. It's really difficult to observe in events because the game is heavy on particle and shader effects.
