GW2 interactive map! How is the game? You guys having ablast? Staying power? I got into GW games late and everyone fizzled - our Blues CLan died a horrible death.... It's fantastic. Most fun I've had in a long time. It's so nice to be able to play a multiplayer game without any form of griefing, people just genuinely being friendly to each other (not always, but I'd say 99% of the time, it's just a really nice community. It's probably also due to the server though, as I've heard some stories of some of the hardcore PvP servers where apparently all the Call of Duty and Halo asswipes wound up...)
There's awesome, awesome, AWESOME scenery to explore, with really cool content (and some really crappy ones too. There are several hearts where you just get the feeling that they were plunked down there "just to have a heart", and they spent literally 5 minutes creating the triggers for it).
It has cool powers and tough combat until you learn how to play your character (I used to be able to beat 1 mob and would get ganked if there was a second. Then I learned how to handle two, and now I'm at the stage where I can reasonably comfortably handle four or five at a time, and if I fight a single mob it basically never gets a hit in.)
Really the only thing that kinda disappointing to me so far is the personal story. I did about five more chapters of it last night, and I guess I just picked a combination of choices at the start that makes the story just kinda... boring, I guess. Oh noes, we have a corrupt minister who committed treason. How shocking! Please spend four missions finding out what happened to this old squad that got sent to their deaths by this traitor!
Yawn. What is this, an episode of NCIS? Or am I playing a fucking FANTASY game??
I'm kind of forcing myself through them just because they give a lot of XP. If it wasn't for that, I'd just abandon the whole thing altogether, not the least because these personal missions, for whatever reason, seem to be far, FAR harder than the stuff I'm doing in the rest of the game. Yesterday I got put into a small cave with three fucking ettins, one of whom did AoE attacks. I mean, wtf??? I got through with 83 health left (out of 1500 or so), and really only because I had multiple stealths and the Thieves Guild skill (which summons two kick-ass thieves to destroy shit for you.) It was a level 15 mission, and had I tried it at level 15, I would have just been absolutely murdered.
I have no idea what the hell they're thinking in these. Another mission I got put into a cave with three groups of five to six pretty tough bandits. And though I had Logan Thackeray with me at that point, he's dumber than a bag of hammers. Most of the time, he was standing there in the corner doing nothing. The ass.
I honestly have no idea how a different class would handle this, though admittedly that's because I haven't played them. Maybe an Elementalist just AoE blasts that group into nothing or something. My thief is really focused on survival and she barely managed to get through those fights.

It will probably ebb and flow like most other MMO games. The lack of a sub fee makes it a great game to come back to after taking a break though. I'm still having a great time and there are way less social restrictions than in other MMOs like WoW - you can be in a guild on a different server than yours, do cross server activities with friends and so on.
The base game itself has an absurd amount of content, probably a thousand hours or so if you were to do everything. Great bargain considering much of it is experienced organically rather than in a traditional treadmill too. It's the first game this year where I felt it really lived up to all of my expectations, hopefully BL2 is the second. |

Still just scratching the surface really, and the guild keeps growing. We're getting our guild bank today and I have to create our guild emblem for gear too. I'm hoping they have an icon of the Gunnar-man taking a pee in the house.

I suspect he'd claim it wasn't due to his spleen injury. And I did read one report saying the laceration was completely healed. So, maybe it was just a bad game independent of the injury? *shrug* If nothing else you'd think he wasn't as prepared as he might have been without the injury. |
