Ubisoft Uplay PC Launches

Ubisoft announces the launch of their Uplay PC application, which offers the ability to purchase their games via digital distribution along with an integrated chat system. "Uplay PC is a great way for customers to discover Ubisoft's games, connect with their friends and gaming communities, and win achievements and content that's not available anywhere else." said Stephanie Perotti, Worldwide Director for Online Games, Ubisoft. "For PC gamers that are already fans of Ubisoft's titles or have been considering trying some of our classics, this promotion is a great deal, and our way of saying thank you for their support." They are kicking things off with a sale offering 75% off on many titles, and others for just a buck:
Today at Gamescom 2012, Ubisoft officially launched Uplay PC, an application that serves as a digital distribution platform and central point for PC gamers to connect to Uplay's community and consumer-centric services. The video game developer and publisher also kicked off a promotion making select Ubisoft PC titles available through Uplay PC for as little as $1 for a limited time.

Uplay, Ubisoft's online services and distribution platform, now has more than 35 million members and is available across Ubisoft games and across platforms. Uplay PC replaces individual game launchers and lets gamers access all their Uplay-enabled PC games and Uplay services in the same place. Uplay PC also includes new features, including an integrated shop, the direct purchase and download of games, a friends list and chat system that add value to PC players' experience.

To encourage players to download and try Uplay PC, Ubisoft is making PC versions of Driver®: San Francisco, From Dust®, Silent Hunter® 5 and Tom Clancy's® H.A.W.X.® 2 available for $1 for a limited time. Other popular titles -- including Anno 2070T, Assassin's Creed® II, Assassin's Creed® Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed® Revelations, Might & Magic®: Heroes® VI, Tom Clancy's® Splinter Cell Conviction® -- are discounted up to 75%, also for a limited time.

I've got PooPlay installed because I'm playing through Driver San Francisco (a surprising excellent open world arcade driving game that I got cheap on the Steam sales, Ubisoft even removed the always on DRM - shocked). I've never even looked at Uplay itself. I launch Driver from Steam. Then Uplay launches. Then I click "Play" in Uplay to finally launch the game. My mind is incapable of even seeing anything on the app other than the Play button.

Countdown until Anti DRM Fanatics spam this news story....5....4....3...2....1...

How about just people who don't want another fucking digital platform?

You weren't supposed to chime in yet. The countdown was for anti-DRM "fanatics". It's funny and sad at the same time that being against losing basic rights you've enjoyed since Pong now means being a "fanatic" to some people.

No one is anti-DRM...IF it's reasonable. A code to activate the game for a one time check. How hard is that? Making your games unplayable or crippled because people are forced to connect to your system is the sort of bullshit most normal people don't want. Sorry if you're not one of us but it's like that and that's the way it is.

Yep. I am anti-ridiculous DRM. I happily use Steam multiple times a day and it is undeniably a form of DRM. A value-adding, largely non-intrusive form, which is why I use it.

I call absolute bullshit on 35 Million members on Uplay.

For one Uplay is absolute garbage and i was annoyed I had to have it installed to play Future Soldier or Conviction. Not to mention Ubisoft support is some of the absolute worst I have ever had to deal with when I had an issue with Conviction.

Fuck Ubisoft, Fuck Uplay. Absolutely unfortunate since I thought Watch Dogs looked amazing but I don't want that shit installed on my PC ever again.

It's across all platforms so I think that means anyone who played a recent Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, etc game on console as well.

I would rage about all these accounts, but that's kind of ancient history at this point. I already have a Uplay account, because I registered X and Y Ubisoft games years ago. Might as well see how decent the application is.

I'm glad these challengers to the Steam monopoly are coming around, I just wish they were all simple sites like GOG or Amazon where you buy a game, download it, back it up and never worry about it again.

No I don't want another fucking client. If they do a web-store, it's something I'd consider, but no, absolutely not another client because they all feel like they need to have their own Achievement and Social system

You don't want more deals? Spending less money? Forcing Steam to stay competitive? Just add the game to your Steam game list once it's installed.

Hmm lets just see what kind of dollars they want...

Ghost Recon Future soldier ($49.99)
Anno 2070 ($22)
M&M 6 ($32.49)
Hawx 2 ($19.99)

Hmmm these must not be the prices of the games inside this app. So I have to install it to browse the games? (for accurate prices) Kind of curious to try silent hunter 5 for $1.

*Downloadin Uplay*

Ugh, I can't do it. It's sitting there at the bottom of chrome telling me it's downloaded and I just can't click it. Sorry ubi.
