Well, in some cases, "what really happened" is public record. For instance, you can find the legislation that Clinton passed to decrease regulations on subprime mortgages. It was done primarily to increase availability of mortgages to minorities and increase their home ownership. That led to a giant rise in subprime mortgage shops (we all remember endless Ameritrade commercials I'd bet), but these shops were just originators, not servicers. This led to those being sold and traded on Wall St., and we know where that went.
It was legislation passed with good intentions but awful outcomes.

here we go with the armchair illuminati

yeh, yeh.. you've got it all figured out, guys

go take over the world

For all the political debates on this board, this is possibly the least warranting of the "armchair illuminati" comment.

Real leaders take responsibility for their actions. This guy had full reign for two years and made our debt skyrocket. This is all on public record and can be verified. The media is not going to go against their guy;stop drinking the coolaid and research for yourselves.

Did Bush, Clinton and Greenspan? ever take responsibility for leading the US into the mess you're in before passing the buck to Obama? Didn't think so. Well, Greenspan kind of did, but not really.

You mean Bill Clinton who eliminated 12 years of GOP debt, gave the US a surplus and took it to it's ever lowest rate of unemployment? That Clinton? Geez, what an asshole! And for the record I think Bush Sr. probably would have ended up doing much better if he had seen a second term so this isn't just me bashing the GOP. As I've stated before I think Bush Sr. was a pretty good president and underrated.

The Clinton that also lowered subprime mortgage regulations, leading directly to the bursting bubble, and made significant deals with the then-developing Chinese economy.

Clinton was no saint.

How is that change doing for you? More lay offs, stores fronts in the mall are empty...Worse president ever!

What the fuck are you even talking about? A big company bought a smaller company and is trimming it down to just the parts it wants. How is that any politician's fault?

Is our debt responsible for this economy? Again, remember that the entire world is in a recession. It isn't just the US, nor just the Western world.
And are you really American? You've made some grammar mistakes and don't seem to know what Kool-Aid is.

What will Mitt Romney do to change any of that? Cut taxes on the wealthiest? Lower minimum wage? How does any of that fix this?

And, given that the entire world is in an economic recession, how do you think Obama could fix this?

Obama hasn't been the most effective president, possibly not at all an effective president, but blaming the economy on him is as stupid as giving Clinton credit for the boom during his presidency. Obama didn't orchestrate the global recession any more than Clinton did the .dot-com growth.
