Dishonored Creative Kills Trailer

The Bethesda Blog now offers a new "Creative Kills" trailer from Dishonored, showing gameplay from Arkane's upcoming stealth/action game. Word is: "The latest Dishonored video showcases just a few of the ways that you can eliminate your enemies using the flexible combat system. Creatively combine supernatural abilities with the weapons and gadgets at your disposal, including self-induced friendly fire and the ever-popular mobile rat bomb."

I really like that you can attach mines to rats. However, the ability to pause time still looks incredibly overpowered.

Difficulty in a game has never been a criteria for me... other than overly difficult = way too frustrating and probably either no sale, or I'll use cheats.

So, as long as the game is fun, I don't mind overpowered options. The beauty is you don't have to use them. I've played many o' game where my second run through was "stealth only", "non-lethal only (or mostly)", or some other challenging and entertaining way to play though again.

I guess the problem is that challenge is necessary for me to have fun. If I can breeze through a game, I'll get bored pretty quickly. I'm definitely going to use the highest difficulty and ghost my way through the game (no killing or incapacitating anyone unless the objective requires it). But even that playstyle will be too easy if I can teleport, possess people and pause time. We'll have to see how they balanced the mana costs of those abilities against the availability of mana regen items.

This trailer does, more than anything else I've seen of it so far, give the impression that it's going to be one of those games espousing giving the player lots of freedom, though it's really just the freedom between two or three obvious and prescribed solutions.

These are "creative" only in the sense that the developer came up with them as alternatives to standard FPS weapons. They're not "creative" in the way a game like this SHOULD be, i.e., rewarding player creativity through dynamic and reactive game systems. This is just another theme park FPS headed to the bargain bin.
Very well put and I fully agree. It's an illusion of variety.

Seems kind of like the recent Syndicate game in that regard.

I have to comment on some of the textures. When the player leans out the textures on the wall look absolutely horribly low resolution. I hope the gameplay compensates for the old school textures.

The design does seem a little mixed up, as though it varies a little unevenly between different art styles, and there seems to be a general lack of detail to the levels (which could just be a trade-off, maybe the levels are really big or something) and it has the sort of over-sized props that games have been getting away from lately. Anyways, the graphics aren't very impressive. I'd call it "good enough" though, if the game play is fun.

Aye, their first person combat system was and still is, second to none.

This looks cool albeit too easy. Reminds me of Thief - only that you're now a supernatural tank.

Dark Messiah's first person fighting was fantastic, I really wish Skyrim was as viceral as dark messiah. Jamming a dagger into an enemies neck after sneaking up on him was brutal

Can't wait

Dev diary said you will only be able to use such a power once or twice a mission given the resource scarcity, was only buffed for demo purposes... Still with this, Bioshock Infinity, and Borderlands 2, I am quite a happy gamer coming winter season ;p

Weak sauce.
