Do we want to hear Carmack speculate on this or that? Carmack also isn't in touch with the current state of gaming. He's a techie, not a designer or even a salesman and considering how much idtech5 sucked on the PC, i guess he isnt even in touch with the current state of tech anymore.

Yeah - while he clearly had some formidable design skills at one time, it has always been my opinion that Romero is easliy one of the most overrated talents in game design. His string of debacles and failures since his Doom days certainly do nothing to challenge that notion in my mind.

This.

Romero has always struck me more as a 'right place right time' kind of guy than truly a talented developer. I don't have anything against him, but I think the laurels he's been resting on are firmly pressed at this point.

"Van Gogh painted alone and in despair and in madness and sold one picture in his entire life. Millions struggled alone, unrecognized, and struggled as heroically as any famous hero. Was it worthless? I knew it wasn't."

It helps us understand one thing. Price has little to do with piracy that many clinged to as a large reason for piracy and I could have been lumped into that thinking.

Price plays a part when a buyer has to squeeze your product into an ever limiting time. If you are near saturation and have two options to fill it, $$$ matters.

Also it shows that more casual players aren't willing to pay much anything so STOP F'in catering to them. Me hardcore, me spend real money.

Someone needs to inform Romero that iOS is a piracy platform too.

As is PC yet tons of indie devs seem to be doing just fine there. I've never understood the developers who are whining about Android's apparent piracy problem when they will cheer other platforms piracy is just as easy if not easier on. He's also one of the many Apple advocates who are ignoring the issue more developers are complaining about which is that it's very hard to get noticed on iOS if you aren't on the top 25 lists and that it's becoming more like the AAA industry where a few succeed big and the vast majority fail. Angry Birds, Infinity Blade, Draw Something, these are exceptions, not the rule and the exceptions are getting fewer and fewer all the time. Not many want to admit it because "IOS BE TEH FUTURE OF EERVYTHING!!!" but I'm reading more and more developers talking about how while the cost of entry is still low, your chances of making any real money is pretty slim now if you don't have a publisher or well known brand attached to your game.

Also, not that I think it's unreasonable to doubt OUYA but I'm a wee bit hesitant to outright trust stuff coming from John Romero who has how many failed studios in a row behind him now? 3 I think? He's arguably not had a major success since working with id Software, I'm not sure he has the pulse of the industry anymore.
