Ditto. I also like to go into local stores to see and feel the products before buying. Also, buying in stores (assuming small to put into a car) are usually quick.

I wouldn't install Windows 8 even if they paid me $399.99.

Heh, looks like Worst Buy is going to try a new Bait and Switch scheme.

I can't really think of any single compelling feature that's worth upgrading from Windows 7 to 8 for. Storage Spaces is pretty niche and there are stable third party solutions already so meh. I'm surprised there will be no XP/Vista upgrade options, I would have thought that would be a good upgrade source for them. I guess they want to preclude old hardware specs from trying to enter the pool.

XP is 32 bit and you should really be upgrading to 64 bit, even if I ever do an upgrade from 7 I'd do a clean format/install.

I love how that article says Best Buy is only beat out by Amazon because Amazon doesn't have to charge sales tax. Bullshit. Look up any TV Best Buy carries. I would put down money that Amazon has the same model with free shipping for at least $200 less. I've used Best Buy to look at my last three TVs and then purchased them for hundreds less on Amazon. Games are less, movies are less, computers are less. I can't think of one thing that Best Buy charges less for.

Plus you don't have any brain dead sales kids doggedly trying up-sell you crappy store extended warranties or ridiculously over priced cables.

My family's had bad luck getting TV's online: arriving either physically damaged or just plain-old DOA. So we tend to use brick-and-mortar stores for them.

However I don't tend to use BestBuy. There are a couple of small places nearby that offer pricing pretty close to Amazon for the stuff I've looked at (even after tax/delivery). No fedex/UPS/etc... they just deliver it in a van from the store if I want.

And I feel better that if there's a problem it's less of a hastle than dealing with an online place.

I'll have to wait and see bout that. Until then, I can't see any advantage to upgrading... there's very little under the hood that entices me... faster boot... improved task manager... that's about it. Not even worth the $40, IMO.

Even then metro, will still be under the hood... and I'm not sure you can get rid of it all the way, nor the xbox live crap.
Xbox LIVE Games in Windows 8 is simply a Metro app, just like the other bundled apps (Mail, Photos, Calendar, etc) - it takes three clicks to uninstall it and is all done on the Start screen. As for getting rid of Metro, of course you're not going to be able to easily get rid of it - it's a core part of the operating system. That said, I'm sure many apps will do an incredibly good job of hiding it.

At $40 I'll definitely be upgrading, but I was planning to anyway.

That was for new PC buyers - if you buy a PC with Windows 7 preinstalled you can upgrade for $14.99. If you have been using Windows 7 for more than a few months it's $39.99.

I'm sure sales tax is part of the story, it's s small part. It's mostly because Best Buy charges more for everything (even if you subtract tax) than Amazon. Boo-hoo we can't compete because of sales tax!
