Diablo III Patched in Americas

The Diablo III Website has word that the new version 1.0.3 patch is now live for the action/RPG sequel in the Americas, offering the complete patch notes explaining what it does. There's a story on Kotaku (thanks nin) based on forum posts suggesting there is a problem collecting XP on the digital editions after patching. We have not been able to replicate this here, but the solution suggested in the forums is that this is fixed by changing your password if this happens to you.

Blizzard treats this game like WoW, and they expect people to put up with their bipolar ups-and-downs of damages and costs heaving high and low.

They release an unpolished beta, and use the public as free testers.

Don't want to upgrade to latest version? Want to keep previous version and stick to LAN play, perhaps?

Hahaha. You're fucked, sir.

P.S. this is just the beginning of failure cascade that will strike down SAAS (software as a service) model. The company where I work thinks SAAS is the future, but it is not. It is an old idea with the same problems that cannot be eliminated, and it will die off, and everyone who embraces it fully will die with it.

Eventually, even Blizzard.

I recall the same complete outrage when blizzard nerfed corpse explosion in D2 soon after release. I do get that it's annoying, but in the end I believe you get a better game out of it.

Thank you for this. I'll start up a different character. Wasn't aware that they shared gold. Gives me a reason to try out the different classes.

Thanks again,

Question for you Diablo addicts. I'm playing hard now and as of midway through act 1 I no longer have enough money to repair anything nor do I have ANY piece of armor or a weapon that is not broken.

How the fuck do I get money to fix shit when I'm naked fighting with my fists?

Remind me not to play this drunk again.

So I'll just assume I'm screwed here? I really don't see any reason for me to keep playing this at this point. Stupid liquor.

There are a few options here, though you may like none...

One is to go back to an earlier part of the game and farm enough for the repair bill... I'm not sure that would be any fun, except that there's already an achievement for doing it on boss fights...

Two is to have someone else carry you in an MP game...

Three is that since your gold is shared across characters, start up a new one (or play an already mid lvl one).

Edit: Oh and sign the petition about the repair costs... Petitions always work...

I've stated, 'D3 is great, it has some problems that need to be sorted out, but overall it's fantastic. I don't have a problem with online only, but would still like to see an offline mode.'

What the trolls see is, 'D3 is great, blah blah blah blah blah blah, but blah it's fantastic. I don't have a problem with online only, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.'

To be more precise, I think what they see is 'There are no problems with online only' : ) Like when a gaming company (let's say Blizzard) says that they would like to add 'this' feature, and a year later, when the game launches, people scream that they didn't get what was promised...

I don't know, you talk about irrational but that seems like a pretty immature and pointless dig at Prez over a previous disagreement in a totally different topic. You seem hellbent on antagonizing the entire website as if trapped in some sort of bizarre negative attention complex so I guess whatever. The irony is at your current rate of bridge burning, soon I will likely be the only person reading and responding to you Heart

Also saying "oh that one time I posted a problem I have with the game" doesn't offset the dozens of hostile responses to people who often simply posted an opinion or issue they're having with the game. One time I posted a problem I have with Max Payne 3 but that doesn't mean I'm not a total fanboy for Max Payne stuff.

But troll as you will.

Hey, I put a little smiley face there. I had a better post earlier when you first assessed the patch but I decided against it. You can't deny you've been pretty outspoken in your acclaim/defense of the game.

Actually that's just a perception that the haters have, one that Bats pointed out in the other thread.

Well, you can play another character and then move money between your stash. I am running 5 characters and sharing stuff that I find with all of them. Works nice. Even with 5 characters and 1 harcore, there are still things I haven't seen. That 10 things in the desert deal that is a roulette wheel in the cheevos? I have only seen 1 thing out of that. Weird.

Ha! Rational? ok.....

There is no conspiracy here, people want to like Diablo games. People talking about problems in the game doesn't mean they are bashing your personal choices. Who actually wants a $60 loss? The us vs them mentality is pretty apparent in your post. Just because you don't take anything seriously in any videogame doesn't mean other people share your attitude. People put a lot of time into these things so they tend to give a shit about how it goes. I don't care about whether my local sports team performs up to snuff but I don't wander into the bars telling everyone else how happy I am they had a losing season because its just sports who cares.

You are trying to pull parallels that aren't there. You continue to bash a game you have no first hand experience with. Your arguments are just as ridiculous as those you call "fanbois" - you know, people who play the game and own it and are enjoying it?

In fact, I do make fun of Packers fans when they have a bad season.

Magic Find was a pretty important stat to some people, melee especially as their gear is far more expensive to obtain so many needed actual drops. They like the ability to influence the drop system so that everything isn't strictly RNG chance. I've never been one to make crazy ass MF sets but the people who do take it pretty seriously. I could live with the breakables thing but MF not affecting chests felt pretty absurd, even reading the patch notes I couldn't help thinking "really?!". At that point just get rid of the stat so it doesn't waste slots on an item.

I think they have to be really careful making sweeping changes like they did to MF and IAS too, people are now spending actual cash on items so their level of anger will be a lot more than if they had just had an item obsoleted due to a better one dropping or something.

You sound more than a little defensive lately about this game. A few of them were frustrated and uninstalled, it wasn't all of them or something. It's been a bit of a pisser for some people who had a lot of expectations for the game, people expected the patch to fix a lot of the games problems. I think it makes sense, what else do you do with a game you have stopped enjoying?

I'd rather people who were that upset just play something that they enjoy more and possibly come back to the game when its better.

My other friend was a monk who said the game is too slow without the IAS and is going back to the faster paced Diablo 2. A few of my other friends said they will give it a chance but didn't really play much after an hour so I expect they will peter out.

I'm a bit more tolerant but I can't see myself playing much without my RL friends. They hit DH way too hard too, the NT nerf was a bit absurd and poorly thought out as the skill is now useless. It had a smaller AoE than Ball Lightning but did more damage, it seemed like a fine trade off.

I don't know, they are really fucking up this game IMO. The constant farming nerfs don't really make sense - how is running elites any better thematically than running bosses or chests? People are always going to try to find the path of least resistance to get items as that's what the game is all about - getting cool items. They seem intent on stopping any form of fun that is unapproved. I don't care if Batman wants to run pots 24/7 for gold, how does that affect me? This game doesn't even have PvP right now, they don't need to fine tune balance/economy like WoW. Why don't they just update Warden and actually go after the people causing the problems with automation software?

The repair cost stuff is just fucking dumb. People shouldn't have to sit there like an accountant, weighing their debt to income ratio to worry about if they can afford another Butcher run or not. I'm a bit incredulous they thought this would fly in a videogame where they are selling currency too.
