The guys I speak to from my guild (WoW/SWTOR/GW2) and the 3 coworkers I know of that were all jazzed up for D3 all have the same sentiment.. it's just "okay". They are playing it to play something, and really aren't that into it. In fact, the young kid I work with, who was ALL ABOUT D3 talk for the last few months, said he's bored with it already.
This is kind of how my group seems to feel. There are some casuals who aren't that far and are still working their way through it. The rest of us are doing Inferno already but I can't see it becoming a thing we do for long because the loot isn't interesting enough to warrant the timesink. Not sure how I feel about Nephalem Valor, it seems like a smart anti-botting thing but running an entire act looking for champion packs isn't exactly fun either. Some of the champion pack modifiers are absurd in the extreme and just fall under the category of unforgiving instead of difficult (Firechains, Frozen, Phantoms, Mortar, really?!). There are some really annoying mechanics they brought over from WoW like enrage timers too. Some of my friends are bummed that they can't really use the builds they want to in the higher difficulties, most classes have to give up a lot for survivability.
I don't know, it's a fun game and I have no regrets for the money spent. It just isn't going to grab me for the length of the time I thought it would which is kind of disappointing, we're already on the look out for other MP games even. A friend of mine summed it up as "well polished, decent game but not game of the year material" and I think I'd agree with that.
