Mike Hayes Leaving SEGA

Mike Hayes is leaving SEGA this summer, departing the post of president and CEO of SEGA Europe and SEGA of America (SEGA West) he's held since 2009, reports MCV. They outline his accomplishments in that time: "Hayes has overseen a tenfold growth in the company as it switched from format-holder to multiplatform developer and publisher. Specific highlights in Hayes’ tenure has been moving the firm to a more digital business model, and acquiring The Creative Aseembly [sic] and Sports Interactive, responsible for Sega’s biggest hits on PC (the Total War and Football Manager series, respectively)." Word is he will focus on advisory and non-executive roles both inside and outside of the industry and that his European duties will be assumed by Jurgen Post, COO of Sega Europe.

Speaking of Sega... Binary Domain... worst PC port in the history of PC ports?

Is was that bad eh? That's a shame, it looked kind of neat in a ridiculous camp kind of way.

I tried the demo on steam because the game itself actually looked like it could be interesting and fun....

5 Minutes in I was cursing. WASD is how you scroll the menu, Enter is the "Start button"

You start playing and it starts walking you through the tutorial telling you what buttons to press..... still shows the Xbox buttons, Green A, Red B, etc. So you have to smash the keyboard to figure out which one corrisponds to what because hitting Escape does NOTHING (Figured out finally I had to HIT ENTER BECAUSE IT WAS START SO THAT WAS THE PAUSE BOTTON) After you finally hit "Start" there is no menu, figured out F1 was options, no option to remap keys or figure out what buttons did what.

Tore what was left of my hair out.

Uninstalled the demo.

You can actually set it up so it doesn't do that (instead it shows you weird pictogram that almost, but don't quite, correspond to actual keys), and setup that way ESC works as you'd expect and stuff, but it's still sloppy. So, I wouldn't bother going back and trying it. The mouse controls are still funky (some kind of non-linear filtering), and all the little control foibles add up to make it too frustrating for an action game.

It's kind of a shame actually, because underneath all the crap, it actually seemed like kind of a cool game. I liked the ultra-robo-violence.

My cynical side is telling me that the board decided that it was better for Sega to pay the ridiculous severance this guy was contractually guaranteed rather than allow him to further destroy the company by remaining as CEO despite what any press release says. In truth, for all I know he was the only smart one in the bunch and he was forced out by a bunch of passionless, greedy suits who want to just pump out Call of Duty clones by the truckload. Or maybe he just decided it was time to move on.

No, I'm pretty sure that title goes to RE4. The original European version shipped with no lighting effects and none of the versions had mouse support.
