The Bethesda Blog announces the lengthy pre-pre-registration period for QuakeCon 2012 is nearly over, and pre-registration for the Zenimax media game event will commence tomorrow evening. Excellent. I suppose we all agree on the massive amount of disappointment. It is a real bummer.

Edit: Do you think Zenimax will let Tim Willits or The Carmak speak in this quakecon? Or is it too risky for the faggoting people?

Zenimax (Bethesda's parent company) bought id Software more than two years before Rage was released.

Yes, and all the money they tossed at Rage, put them in a position where they had to sell their company, which was my point.

"We're all idiots"? And Rage ruined id Software?

They created, marketed and released a 23GB game with shit textures in the year 2011, with the quality of 2004. I would say that id ruined themselves (or cashed in and retired comfortably and happily) by releasing a mediocre console shooter and selling themselves out to hack RPG developer owned by Zenimax.

A sad end to an illustrious career, but the kids don't care these days so it doesn't matter in the grande scheme of things.

id made some good games but before they released rage they just did a 360 towards PC gaming and its not like there support for Quake Live have been great either.

I've been a fan of FPS's and RPG's since they existed. I've always been a fan of id Software, kind of why I came to this site so many years ago. Or Fallout, one of my top RPG's of all time. Now look who owns them. Bethseda, a company that strips the RPG from RPG's and can't get the action into FPS. 2012 and that is the state of gaming.

Several years ago I would've given my left nut to fly down to Texas to play ET with a bunch of other wacko's in one big nerd party, now, I couldn't give a shit.

As to apologizing for companies that are trying to make money, millions of small businesses around the world value their customers and make money without fucking their clients over. I swear the latest 'consumers' have been trained to accept that they're just 'units being shifted' and don't seem to care about how they're treated, or even understand that their being manipulated. Obviously, spending millions on advertising works.

Its not a bad thing, and it sure isn't as simple as "being good" to your customers. You can't make everyone happy, and it's hard to know what consumers want. When business is good and you can financially afford it, you don't have to make hard decisions or compromises that potentially screw over part of your consumer base in order to keep your company afloat.

Ironically, it's the most successful companies that end up screwing customers over the most. Just look at Activision, Ubisoft, EA, Microsoft, etc. Those companies aren't exactly struggling to stay afloat but they have no problem nickel & diming customers or resorting to anti-competitive business practices.

Microsoft has mountains of money but that doesn't stop them from shelling out millions of dollars for timed exclusivity in order to hurt anyone that doesn't have an Xbox. Take CoD DLC, for example. CoD is a multiplatform game, yet MS and Activision agreed that it would be fine to screw PS3 and PC customers by making the DLC exclusive to Xbox for a month.

You make that sound like a bad thing. If being good to customers is the best way to profit, both customers and businesses should be happy. Companies like CD Projekt and Valve have proven that you don't have to screw over your customers (or potential customers) in order to be profitable.

Not everyone and every company is a slave to the dollar. Why support companies that won't support you? Maybe some of you are happy to take their leavings, but the rest of us aren't and they won't get our money.

Quit deluding yourself. The one and ONLY goal for a company is to make money. Supporting your customers and all that goodwill shit, they only do that if it makes financial sense to do so.

This is now QuakeCon in name only. They should just rename it to BethesdaCon. Just look at where it was announced...

Yeah they should come here to Maryland! Yeah just because there is more money in console games doesn't guarantee success. I'd say as a consumer, they didn't pull off the transition very successfully as they shrugged off their existing hard-core customers. Quakecon for console gamers? LOL

I've gone to this event quite a few times in the past (not too hard since I live in the area). As of now, I won't be attending this event anymore. This past year everything was about the console, hell even Carmack's state of the union was praising the console and dissing the PC. It's really a shame that one of the pioneers of PC gaming has gone to the dark side.
