The slim model doesn't count as "new hardware" in the same context.
No of course not but my point is they kept denying that as well until the final reveal.

Microsoft has definitively said that there will be no new hardware announced at E3 or "any time soon". Until recently, I thought that was fine as the last thing the AAA industry needs right now is even higher budgets but now the iPress is going on about how the iPad 3 is supposedly as powerful as a 360 (which is hilarious in how wrong that is) and that in a couple of years, we'll all be using tablets instead of consoles for all our gaming anyway. These guys need new hardware just to shut those idiots up.

I know Microsoft said that but, they did say that also prior to introduce the xbox slim. They are not idiots they will not say anything of course because that will shut down the current xbox sales completely.
We will see what happens at E3, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft can squeeze another year out of the current xbox.

The tone of the article is hilarious. The industry is horrified that people aren't buying a six-and-a-half-year-old console anymore!

There really wasn't any worthwhile title released in Q1 for the xbox either so that may also effected the sales. I think May will turn that around when Max Payne, Ghost Recon, gets released.
With E3 approaching probably a lot of people are anticipating an announcement from M$ about a new console.

heopfully new consoles soon, cant come fast enough - if new console with better hardware are released at least we will see some PC games start to take some strides again from a graphical standpoint as cross platform development is a reality thesedays (that and i have to admit to liking a bit of console action now and then).
Everyone on Bluesnews is synical, get over it.
edit: i cant spell, this is my disclaimer.

And probably most of those were replacements for the RROD.
