Wasteland 2 Status Report - Editor Possible

Update #8 on the Kickstarter Page for Wasteland 2 address the fact that fundraising for the RPG sequel has hurtled past the 200% mark, and is heading to the $2.1 million threshold InXile says will trigger the participation of Obsidian in the game's development. Since they seem sure to hit that mark as well, they set out some additional fundraising goals, saying if the game reaches the $2.5 million mark they will bring in a couple of additional designers, and if they reach the $3 million mark, they will be able to provide a mod kit to customize the game. They also outline the current state of the project, as preproduction has begun.

They never said the Linux\Mac versions would be released at the same as the PC version. It might not effect PC development at all. I presume those who take issue with the additional OS support are fearful it'll effect the quality of the PC version?

Anyhow, depending on the engine they choose porting it over to Mac and Linux might be a simple thing.

Considering a fair chunk of their money has come from people like me who only donated because of the promised Linux (or Mac for some people) version, that would be a really shitty thing to do... Thankfully, the people making the games don't seem as short-sighted and narrow-minded as some here on the sidelines seem to be...

Very true gents. Lets get a game out in 1.5-2 years, solid, functioning, again I think they should scrap the Apple/Linux idea, and if the game is solid, the left over cash can be used for a DLC or Wasteland 3.

Game wise this sounds great, business wise I am no so sure these guys are making the right moves.

Yeah, they're not gonna reach 3 million. Which is probably good, because they need to be very careful of feature creap. Adding more and more writers and scripters etc doesn't necessarily make for a good game. It's cool to add areas and "stuff", but that "stuff" does need to be integrated in your overall storyline to make sense, and there's a limit to how much you can do that.

I hope they make 2.1 million (I think they will), so Avellone will join them, and then they need to make a kick-ass RPG and stop worrying about all this "Oh we could do this and that and that and that."

Stop. Focus on what you've got, make a game with that.

It seems like, if other KS are any indication, things tend to pickup in the last 24-48 hours. 2.5 doesn't seem unobtainable (they're almost at 2, with 11 days to go) but I'm not sure they'll hit 3 (but I'd certainty be happy if they did).

I'd like to see game editors as priorities for this and Shadowrun. That way it'll keep the properties going strong as people wait for new stuff to come out.

This just gets better and better. I think of all the KS I've funded, this is the one I'm most excited about.

But Shadowrun sounds good also, assuming they can pull it off.
