EA Loses Consumerist Poll

The Consumerist has the results of their voting for Worst Company In America For 2012, with Electronic Arts taking this dubious distinction. The final vote was between EA and Bank of America, with EA "winning" by a landslide. Forbes has their analysis of what this means (thanks Verno), and GamesIndustry International has a response from EA, quoting John Reseburg of EA Corporate Communications saying: "We're sure that bank presidents, oil, tobacco and weapons companies are all relieved they weren't on the list this year. We're going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide."

EA's response to this demonstrates exactly why they're deserving of this distinction. I can't imagine going through life thinking that being a selfish dick is just fine. And so long as they continue to make a profit that will never change. Whilst I won't say I never buy anything they produce, it amounts to the bare minimum and I'd probably be buying more of their products if they were actually a good company.

And in other news, Hitler misses out on Humanitarian award...

Just last night, as my BF3 game crashed to desktop with the "EA Servers are Offline" message, I thought to myself, "EA deserve an award for their customer service".

It's a shame that "always on" DRM doesn't apply to BOTH parties...

Anyway, at least EA won't with the European awards (short of publicly executing disabled children) since they have to go up against UBISOFT!

EA doesnt care about consumers, they only care whether they make money. As long as all the kiddies keep buying dlcs no matter what, u will never see EA support improve, or hire actual QA. EA been horrible for many years in regards to consumer support and product support, nothing new here.

Shilling for EA? You have to be fucking kidding me. I say they aren't the worst company in America, and I'm shilling for them? Wow. Just wow. I suppose if I say John Wayne Gacy wasn't the worst murderer in history, I'm shilling for him too?

I hate EA, but FFS....

The reason EA won is because most gamers don't have a dime in the bank because they're spending all their money on EA games.

At first I thought this was some small website poll and a gaming forum somewhere had decided to make EA the "winner". But 250 000 people chose EA over any number of giant corporations? They might be a greedy evil company in gaming, but honestly what are people thinking choosing something inconsequential like gaming as a "worst" amongst serious things like telecoms and banks.

Because people are fundamentally inserious creatures?

Or, at the very least, that gamers are more likely to feel slighted by a company.

Considering the sense of entitlement you see in the comments here on a daily basis, this seems exceedingly likely.

I voted Bank of America on that poll, but later wanted to change it because of the monopolistic nature that EA holds it's customer in.

Being a serious gamer pretty much requires you to purchase EA games and use EA services because they own (and have obliterated) so many of the producers and games that us as gamers enjoy.

Skank of America is a humongous, corrupt, and evil corporation as well, but I do have the choice to go to the local community credit union and get all of the same services I would have gotten from BoA. (and I do exercise that choice).

That is what made me want to change my vote after casting it, but sadly I couldn't. Looks like it really didn't matter though, as I hear EA "won" by a landslide.
No one is forcing you to purchase EA games or use EA services to be a "serious gamer".

For fuck's sake, no one's forcing you to play games in the first place.

Everyone needs a bank. Everyone - Bank of America customer or not - was heavily affected either directly or indirectly by Bank of America's corrupt, illegal behavior.
