EverQuest Now Free-To-Play

The EverQuest Website has word that the previously announced free-to-play era is now underway in the seminal MMORPG. "Through 18 successful expansions and countless other game updates, EverQuest has forged its place in history amongst the MMO and online game elite," said Dave Georgeson, director of development of the EverQuest franchise. "With one of the most loyal player communities in the industry, we believe that after 13 years we need to provide them with a wide variety of ways to play the game on their terms. Players can now choose to play in a way that suits them best and continue to expand their game experience...until the next milestone birthday!" That milestone is the game's 13th anniversary, and there are special events underway to help players celebrate the occasion.

I took the time to update my install - only to be told that the client couldn't connect to the servers. After an hour or so of all the usual connectivity troubleshooting, I uninstalled it. I don't even remember how long that games been on my system.

Was really looking forward to the day when this happened to relive some of the old days, but alas sony is in charge. After looking at all the limitations, there's no way I really want to waste my time with this, even for nostalgia and obviously it's not really worth the $15 a month or otherwise it wouldn't be F2P.

How in the hell can current F2P mmogs not have learned from LotRO's success? It's sony, that's why.
Its a sad day for America when people believe women, The Drumpf

Was all over this yesterday.. unfortunately if you are an old-time raider, be prepared to disappoint. Pretty much all of the LDoN augments (the first augs in the game) are marked prestige so if you played after plane of time, you are likely to log into a whole bunch of gear you can't wear.

It seems in several ways, EQ F2P was never ment to re introduce old players back to raiding. You can level up in bad gear, but that is about it.
