New Doomsday

The forums announce the release of a new stable version 1.9.7 of Doomsday, one of the projects based on id Software's publicly released source code from DOOM. This is the output of a new iterative development model they implemented about a year ago after deciding to end the project's ""unproductive Beta development phase." Thanks Ant.

It's nice they are plugging away at this thing. However, the older builds are the best and most stable especially with custom WADs. Too bad most of the addons and 3d model replacements for monsters remain ugly as hell. I know separate people are responsible for them, but come on. Ten years and they still look like shit.

Considering this is for the Doom 1/2 engine source port, I don't find them bad at all.

I used to play lots of Doomsday back when Build 1.9.0 was out in Co-op, but since they started releasing non-MP supported builds I moved over to ZDaemon. Much better multiplay support, but I haven't really found a way to insert textures and models into the engine (though I haven't tried either...).
