The key part of that is 'grinding your way to either more XP or EVENTUAL unlocking of all the gear'.

The options exist for creating specific matches for you and your friends; or joining a run in which everyone puts money into the pot, and the winner walks away with a massive payday. The menus are pain-free and hopping around from game to game is quick enough to never take you out of the experience. While these stalwart features all work well in their own respects, the game introduces Geo Tags, a new feature that could very well prove to be a major innovation in the online arena. At any point during an online run, you can place a collectible in the environment that can then be grabbed by any other player. The longer it takes someone to collect your Tag, the more money you accumulate. This creates an amazingly competitive meta-game that continually has you trying to reach more obscure and extreme locations to place your markers at. This sort of persistent online game of hide-and-seek is something that would fit right at home in any number of other online experiences.

If a game is actually fun to play, then it's not "grinding" now is it? The term "grinding" is a negative connotation towards something you don't want to do because you don't find it enjoyable.

If you are unlocking things during regular gameplay, then what's the problem? If you don't like the game, why would you want all the best stuff right up front when you won't be playing it anyways?

Unlocking things is a standard game mechanic, are people really going to start bitching about that too? Furthermore, EA has been selling unlocks of endgame content for years now.
