They do still make old style legos like City, Space, Castle and Technic. Plus buckets of bricks and whatnot. Star Wars and Harry Potter do get more shelf space, but I expect they would also sell more even on an equal footing.
You're right. I was mostly thinking of people who complain about LEGO having lost its way. I personally don't believe that they've stopped encouraging creativity. In fact, one just needs to visit any LEGO-branded store to have his or her creative juices flowing.
