Neat! Its nice to see valve doing something like this.

I too get angry over how other people choose to have fun LOL thats exactly what I was thinking. Some people ENJOY that kinda thing. Just because he doesn't, doesn't mean everyone else has his same taste and life experience.

Maybe they don't know how many mods there'll be in 3 months time, but the current system can't even handle the current pre-cs amount properly. One of the MANY MANY things about steam that needs tweaking and is terribly obvious to anyone with a clue. A couple others, I can't search my 200+ friends list (they could just copy code from searching library with little effor), and they have all sorts of nice categories marked in each games store page such as co-op, but I still can't sort or search my library for those.
This is why I think they don't have a UI specialist working exclusively on steam, and they need to. Fortunately for valve, no one else has gotten a clue either so far (including origin) and made a great interface. |

Just posting my $1.98 that I agree the sort / search options do need to be better otherwise people will miss a lot of good content. Neither Nexus or Workshop is perfect, but I do hope both improve with time. I do like NMM's updating and rollback features, as well as the fact that it gives you the option to update your mods or not. I like the direct integration of SWS within Steam and the game, but I am a little miffed that Valve, should they deem content inappropriate, can revoke and uninstall a mod without giving you an option to say "oh, no you don't... "
Lack of allowance of mature content is also a put-off, but get it.

"Most popular" "Highest rated" "Newest"
Without a monthly or bi-monthly spot-light of the best mods there is no way you will find any new mod on this system within a month of its opening. Nexus has the top 5 mods of the month for exactly this reason (and a "Top 25 in the past 2 weeks" for both adult only and non-adult, and best rated recent... for more granularity)
-> http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/top/
Already filled by stupid spammers as well The Nexus isn't a good example, it was just the only one out there until now. The staff is terrible, the mod authors pander and froth for upvotes which hurts the listing integrity and there is a pretty amusing amount of content theft from commercial properties which is selectively enforced. The sites navigation is a non-standard piece of shit that breaks traditional browser functionality. I used it because I had to but thankfully I'll have more options from now on.
If you "detest Steam" I'm not even sure why you're using this at all in the first place. I don't know, maybe show some patience and wait a little bit. You seem to have an irrational hatred of something that was just released a few days ago, your blood pressure must have been through the roof for the years of Nexus sites being terrible. The lack of search is a far bigger problem IMO but I'm willing to give them some time to fix things up as this is just the initial release.
It's not a simple situation, they have a number of things to do deal with like how to address copyright infringement, plagarism, what sorts of viewing options the community desires and so on. Some of these things you can anticipate and others just need to be dealt with as they come up.

The advancement here is that Bethesda has a mod download site to send its customers to where before all they could do is link to 3rd party ones. It makes mods look more official and might draw better/more modders into the fold.
The rating thing and the search thing will probably get sorted out.
The Nexus will stay popular because it'll host mods that the official site won't. |

Yeah but you can always sort by top 25 non-adult mods to get around that
Also I think I wasn't just expressing myself clearly here.. take a look at Steam workshop, notice the sorting methods.

Without these features you will never find a mod you don't know about yet.

Is anyone twisting your arm to use it?
ps. a number of fantasy titles have had technology tie ins. IIRC, Might and Magic VI or VII had an entire Battlestar Galactica as part of the plot. |

It's not just the Steam Workshop, though. Nexus has quite a few dubious mods in its top 100 as well... namely nude mods and ridiculous outfits. |

Nothing to say against that, its the rating system and community that sucks
Good mods get swamped by pointless fanboy boosted crap like this - just another reason why no serious modder should ever touch steam workshop |

The beauty of mods is that modders can do whatever they want and you can choose which mods to use. For every ridiculous, lore-breaking mod, there's a mod that makes the game deeper, more challenging, better-looking, less buggy, more balanced, etc. |

Ok, now this was unexpected.
Of course, when I first read it, I thought "Great, now I can return home to sell stuff faster than ever". But I guess a robot is almost as good as a functional Skyrim portal gun. |
