For me the Vita went from a "must buy" (my long train commutes) to "wait for 2nd generation."

having said that, the latest bundle with the 8 gig card is a step in the right direction for those who want a Vita at launch.

I thought the whole point of the 3G was to download games off PSN?

Isn't the 3G plan a month to month so you can turn it on and off whenever you want?
Munching On: FF14 storyline, SAO PS4, Horizon.

I was going to get the 3G version of the Vita, but found out that it's pretty much worthless. You can't download games off it (of course you probably would not want to anyway since ATT's monthly limits SUCK) but more importantly you can not play multiplayer games over it unless it's a turn based thing like chess. Lame. So it's basically only good for web browsing and other minor crap no one cares about. :)
And this is why I don't get why they made a 3G version. It just doesn't seem to be all that useful.

If I was a betting man, I would imagine that in 5 years, we'll look back and there were few compelling games that took advantage of 3G, if for no other reason than developers will cater to the lowest common denominator, i.e. the wifi only version.

That said, I have a 3G preordered for the following reasons:

1. I would rather pay an extra $50 for an extra feature (3G) that turns out to be fairly unsupported than save $50 by leaving out that feature and have it turn out to be well supported.

2. The 3G version has built in GPS, while the wifi only version does not. I give it a 30% chance that there will be an app/game/game feature I will want to take advantage of that benefits from GPS.

3. Given the preorder bundle, you pay $50 more for the 3G version, but you get a memory card ($30), a game ($10? $20?), and a 3G plan ($20, but probably closer to $0 for most people). Depending on what value you place on these extras, the 3G may be effectively free.

I pre ordered the First Edition 3g/WIFI bundle, also bought a 16 gig card. Just couldnt stomach spending 100 on the 32 gig one.

I also hope there are adapters or cheaper models of the memory cards too. That price is crazy. I have several 32 gig Micro sd cards sitting around and it would be nice to be able to use them with the Vita.

So I cancelled my 3G preorder and preordered the wifi one. I'll play MP games on my own wifi with my home cable or tethered to my phone or tablet through AndroidTether/MyWi.

I am very much looking forward to the Vita. I just hope there will be other companies make memory cards for it, or at least adapters because Sony's is way over priced. I also preordered a 32GB one but I'm kind of wondering if I should cancel that. $100 is kind of insane for that, yet $/GB it is the best deal and I plan on downloading most of the games so I'll need a lot of space. :/ Bah.
