More Diablo III Cuts

The Diablo III Forums have word that the Scrolls of Companion and Scrolls of Reforging have been dropped from the Diablo III beta among the recently announced systems changes for Blizzard's action/RPG sequel (thanks VG247). Here's word:
Nethaera Community Manager A few more changes have made their way in to Diablo III beta patch 10, including the removal of Scrolls of Companion and Scrolls of Reforging, and we’ll be updating the patch notes to reflect that.

In both cases these are features we felt were underdeveloped and just not quite good enough for the game in their current state. The companion pets felt like they were mandatory to maximize play efficiency and some of the pets were too cutesy for the gritty, dark world of Sanctuary. Neither of those are issues we felt like we could solve without a lot of additional work, and we’re trying to close in on a solid release date for the game, not move further away. When weighing these systems against releasing the game, we decided to cut these scrolls and stay on track for the game’s release.

We think we can make companion pets into a much cooler system (both mechanically and visually), and evolve the reforging scrolls into a more meaningful system at some point in the future. For the time being, they will not be in the initial release of the game.

So what's next? Are they going to split the chapters of the game up for expansions and charge 59.99 each to play the complete game? I mean they're doing it with SC, why not Diablo as well?

Couldn't of happened to a more overrated developer, eat a dick blizzard, die in a fire.

With the cuts to scrolls, the only thing Lecturns and Bookshelves drop now are the occasional health potion. Either make far less lootable bookshelves or itemize the damn things.

With that said, Scrolls of Companion were a wasted inventory slot. I don't know about the other Scroll, never saw it. Gold is picked up when you run over it, and as already mentioned, there is a "increase gold/globe pickup radius" stat on gear. The companion scroll isn't missed, and only encouraged racing when playing coop.

Ignore the cynical asses.

Scrolls of Reforging were very useful, they let you rescramble the attributes on gear for a durability penalty. Scrolls of Companion were fine, you need to stack a lot of +radius gear to make it meaningful. They needed adjustment, not removal. If both are gone then that's really stupid and they should just remove bookshelves because they serve no purpose anymore.

Whatever happened to When It's Done?

You can bet these will return as part of a patch/expansion with a dollar amount attached. In the case of "pets" I'm sure we'll see some on the Blizzard Store at the same time.

I remember those heady days of Warcraft 2, when it was more about making a kickass game... and not trying to milk a buyer's money-teat.

Right, remove those two things so that you can probably bring them back later in some expansion pack, right? Because change is good, right? Wait until the time is right for you to shove all this down our throats we've already sunk hours into the game probably, right? Yeah.

Honestly, this is sounding more and more like they're losing control of the project. Looking at Blizzard they put out one game (that they chopped in to pieces to monotize on componants) other than that they've been building extensions on to a now admitedly old house. I'm starting to fear Diablo is going to turn in to a Duke Nukem.

Alright. So I'm a jackass because... what, exactly?
I do tend to distrust whatever comes from Activision. That being said,I'd sincerely be impressed/shocked to see them trying to monetize some features they cut from the beta. I could be proven wrong... but were this to be the case, it would simply be the last straw that'd make me avoid any of their products.
