Its because engine coders and Creative Directors never saw a Game Art School from the inside. Yet they are the ones defining the fov value (or rather, defining whether its an option or not). It only takes like 5 minuets to include a fov option into any UE3 game (UE3 even has an open variable for this) So the reason its not done, is because either out of spite, no knowledge about the issue, or simple laziness.

Explained by a proper school - one that these developers *caugh* never visited

If you want, why not repost it to the 2k Forums and everywhere else where theres idiots who don't get FOV so that these poor uneducated peasants can learn something

Also.. you know what. Darkness II is by Digital Extremes.. you know what else is from them, Bioshock II, and Homefront. Both also famous for craptastic broken FOV

So Digital Extremes not only does this by accident, they are intentionally aiming to make a portion of the population sick

All the PC testers play with a gamepad 7 feet away on a couch.

No, they all played on a monitor a foot from their face. Same with the console versions. So maybe, maybe, they don't notice because it looks the same as the consoles (ie messed up at that distance.) Or maybe they play with a wider FOV to compensate and then it is changed to something appropriate for big, distant screens and done across the board, even though it shouldn't for PCs.

But more likely it's some kind of brain slug.

Thats assuming there even was testing, if you play the game with less distance to the screen there is absolutely no way not to notice the FOV issue, and in this game it feels really bad, i actually got sick from just 10 minutes playing...

Well, saves me money and time ;( 1 mediocre designed game less

The demo was pretty fun. Port seems pretty basic, though. No FOV adjustment, no AA adjustment, no AF adjustment. Hopefully those settings will at least be adjustable via ini.

Shitty FOV, hand-holding progression and consolitis aside, I found the demo pretty fun. It's also decent length as far as demo's go these days.
Using the Darkness is pretty awesome at times, even though the ragdolls of the enemies seem a little feathery.
Also, I love the art style and it runs smooth as silk on my old-ish machine.

There is something a little "off" about the gunlpay, though. It's got the same lack of punch that COD4/MW/etc seem to have. The guns look and sound meaty, but they just don't have that ooomph you're looking for in a shooter.
For a good example of gun punchiness, the original FEAR is where it's at in my books.

If I can't play the first one why would I want to play the second one?

I too find it weird that they didn't bother to put out a PC version of the first one before releasing the second one but as someone who finished the first game and the demo on 360, I can say you'd probably be fine starting with the second one. There are flashback sequences and frankly, the story is pretty simplistic, even for a comic book narrative.

I have a 360 and a PS3. I really could play through the original if I wanted to. I just hate console FPS games. Other than Halo, and I only play that because I have a ton of friends who do. But Darkness is a game I would have liked to play through had they made a PC version.

I'm interested to know just exactly why the FoV issue keeps rearing it's ugly head time & time again this entire generation?

Is it simply multi-port laziness? Is it truly just lack of caring or is it that hardcore pc gamers(who care about correct FoV)are such a minority that they prefer to allocate resources elsewhere?

For me this immediately ruins the experience and forces me to lose respect for it's designers.

It's like paying to see a sprawling epic film shot in a theater presentation format of 2.35:1 aspect ratio, and then the Director decides to show it on a 4:3 screen.

It makes zero sense and you despise the Director.

These publishers and developers learn nothing. The FOV is terrible. It's like I'm looking through a magnifying glass. When will they learn?

The demo is cheesey. Everyone is a walking cookie cutter stereotype. It's 2012, I have higher standards. This is pitiful.

2k Games, you SUCK - Go read Wikipedia on FOV - and then die in a tar-pit, whoever developed this game and made that FOV unchangeable

How much you wanna bet Bioshock Infinite is the same fucking way, after people repeatedly pointed out to them they fucked up the FOV in BOTH of the previous bioshock games?

Solution to that is uninstalling of PhysX.. yes, the Nvidia driver component.. completely.. uninstalling.. physX

Which means.. you will have to reinstall it afterwards..

Also the FOV.. oh my fucking god.
