I've ridden 130's many times... they don't drop out of the sky for shit but having an engine go out isn't exactly unheard of. Let me guess your bro is in cherry point or miramar where shit is ideal and maintenance is regular. Maintenance is a little different when you're deployed...

Was in boot camp when the whole 9/11 shit storm happened, god that was so un-fun. |

Yeah and b-17 flying fortess was a shitty game, right?
More or less the same awesomeness but with more firepower. How could you go wrong with that? |

Give me an AC-130 baby! Add in the realism factor of random engine stoppages with shit tons of fire power and you've got yourself an awesome game! Who wouldn't want to drop napalm and shoot a 105 all in the same day?
Maybe it's just the marines who have problems with engines dying because their 130's are fucking ancient and patched together with duck-tape and dreams.
AC130 sim = Flying in a huge circular orbit miles up over and over
ArmA 2 has a decent AC130 mod that's about on par with the COD "on rails" missions except one guy can actually fly, another player can gun, and unlike COD you can place the vehicle anywhere you want\against anything in the mission editor. We used to do MP missions with a couple of guys para dropping out the back while we supported them from the air (probably not realistic considering the spectre's role but who gives a fuck). Pilot has the most boring job because it really is just circling the AC130 to keep the target area in view.

I am pretty sure the P-51 is going to just be added to the current universe of DCS. ED has said the P-51 will not detract from the development of their "Modern" aircraft currently in development. I think most people are putting their money on F/A-18C with re-imagined carrier ops or the F-15C. Personally I want a C-17A or B-1B sim. <--- Never gonna happen.
I bet virtual demo teams are getting boners off this announcement. |

Well, strictly speaking, the P-51 saw service in the US Air Force throughout the Korean War, and it stayed in combat service until 1980 in the air force of other nations. Today it still sees wide use as an Air Racer. Not as thrilling as kill-or-be-killed aerial combat, but that would be cool too. |

Peculiar.
I get the impression this is just a standalone P51 slapped into the existing modern engine. Just take a look of the shot with the A10 flying alongside.
To be honest I can't see them creating all new WWII opponent AI, ground objects\units etc |

WWII sim would be a colossal undertaking with the amount of detail they put into their aircraft.
It would be cool to have at least the ability to dog fight against an ME 109. |

If the other DCS games are any indication, this will be the definitive P-51 Mustang simulation. I'm kind of hoping it is set in WWII - flight sims just aren't as interesting as combat Sims to me. |

AA, ground vehicles, ground targets, enemy/friendly air, etc? Doesn't look like they're making a WWII sim, just adding the P-51D Mustang to the existing modern aircraft roster. |

Might have to spring for this one... The A-10 looked too complicated for me, I prefer the "analog" feel of the old WWII planes. I loved the original IL2 but hated how stripped down Cliffs of Dover felt, however I did LOVE the manual start-up sequences in CoD, so assuming this game is as detailed as the A-10 sim I might have to get it. |

DCS, these guys pretty much took up the spot that Janes did when they were building sims. DCA: "We build them by the book!" |
