Red Orchestra 2 SDK

Tripwire Interactive announces the release of the SDK for Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, allowing for the modification of their World War II shooter sequel. The SDK is offered through Steam for all owners of the game (it can be installed via the "tools" tab). Here's word on the release, and some of the projects it is already helping to create:
Tripwire Interactive are pleased to announce the release of the modding and map making tools for Red Orchestra 2, available free to everyone that owns Red Orchestra 2. While the limited functionality preview versions of the SDK have been available to select modders for a while, this release now makes the full capabilities of the Mod SDK available to everyone. Users can now make and publish everything from simple mods and mutators, through custom maps and on to full total conversion mods.

Modders and map makers have been hard at work with the pre-release SDK and several great maps and mods are already coming together. For a preview of what is to come, check out these three total conversion mods already in production for Red Orchestra 2:

Rising Storm - http://www.risingstormgame.com/
In Country Vietnam - http://www.incountrymod.com/
Iron Europe - http://www.ironeuropegame.com/

I hope this is wrong, but as of the time of this posting RO2 doesn't even have enough players to show up on the Stats on Steam. I hope that's a bug and not an indication of how quickly the community has dried up.

Hasn't always been easy to find a sub 50 ping server with people on it when I've tried to play in the last month or two. Shame.

You guys are acting like they had a choice in the matter... From what I heard, it was either release the game as it was or cancel it and fold the company. Doesn't have to make you feel better about paying for it, but their real fans understood.

In any case, these aren't the type of guys that are going to just move on to the next project and abandon the last one. The vast majority of Killing Floor's sizeable audience has come on board long after that was released, because of their continued patching and content updates combined with Steam promotions.

Yes, they released a broken game, they're horrible people blah blah whatever. I still find it super duper fun, though, so although I have every right to be mad at them for selling a buggy piece of software, I'm still happy with the money I paid for it, because it's a good game. The original is/was one of my favorite games of all time, and although I disagree with a lot of the silly stuff they did this time around, I think the fundamentals are extremely strong. Assuming they fix all the broken stuff (they've done a fairly good job so far but the pace has been slow...) I see no reason why this won't also become one of my favorite games of all time.

Plus you can't say that shoving a dead crew member aside in your tank isn't awesome.

It's definitely not the worst case of release and patch I've seen, I can agree with the rest. This game was a big disappointment for me as one of the people who plunked down for the preorder based on Tripwire's prior history. I should really go back and play it now but the whole release debacle really soured it for me.

Agreed. This was one of the few games that I bought last year and felt taken. The game ran like shit on my rig. I had to turn all settings down just get the game to run smoothly. I haven't gone back to it since the first week. Maybe it runs better now? 35 bucks wasted for me. I gotta stop preordering!

But yes agreed.

Touche. This game, however, is probably my most disappointing purchase of 2011. Got suckered into pre-ordering it based on Tripwire's reputation and their past games. I could have forgiven bugs, lots of them, big ones if it was something that somehow got through testing but these people deliberately released a broken game. There is no way in hell they can pretend that they didn't know it wasn't fit for release, but they went ahead and did it anyway. And hey, it worked out for them too... I think this was their fastest selling and/or most profitable game, so well done to them for shamelessly trading decency and their customers' expectations away for the dollar bills.

We bemoan the "release now, patch later" mentality that is all too prevalent in this gaming industry but this game is the worst example I have ever seen.

Game is very good. I hated Ostfront. With RO2 they redeemed themselves.

It's too bad the community is so small, but that was expected. Coming out around the same time as MW3 and BF3 killed it. A lot of bugs at launch certainly didn't help either.
