Company of Heroes 2?

The rumors section in the new PC Gamer magazine says that THQ's Relic studio is working on a new Company of Heroes-related project, in addition to work on another Dawn of War game. This unconfirmed report offers no details on the nature of this continuation of the World War II real-time strategy series. Thanks Kotaku.

You put Starcraft in my peanut butter Company of Heroes thread!

Honestly, they are very different games, but as an RTS fan I like them both, with a slight edge to CoH. I'm just not a competitive gamer - the type of gamer towards whom Starcraft is more geared.

Nah, you've got that covered already. Starcraft is so great, esports, yadda yadda.

Just ignore us plebs playing great games like Homeworld and Company of Heroes.

Great, maybe now you can go back to lording Starcraft over other people.

You've proven to be quite witty and creative with that persuasive argument. I especially like the variety in your alliteration, contrasting 'idiot' with 'idiot'. That's some lil'jon high level dis you got there. Congratulations, you win.

building quickly.

In the scrub leagues, sure. Once you get out of the novice range and everyone can build shit fast, then the real game starts.

I always figured the game starts when I run the executable

I like both games Yifes, but I'm still happy as fuck they are possibly making COH 2.

Couldn't be more wrong. A properly scouted rush will get you shut down quickly, and Zerg is much more suited to a macro reactive game, and almost never rushes in professional games. And saying the build tree is linear is pure ignorance.

Here's an example 46 different Terran opening builds depending on what strategy you want to persue in the midgame.

And no, it's not just "insane" Koreans going "gaga". With IEM, Dreamhack, North American Star League, Major League Gaming each with prizes in the tens of thousands, and countless smaller tournaments, most of SCII's esports scene is in the west.

Well, no other game period has a "professional esports" scene. Some kid might win a few grand at Halo, and Thresh won a Ferrari, but calling anything else a "scene" is a joke.

Also, calling Starcraft II arcadey is a sign that you've never played Starcraft II or set foot in an acarde in your life.

Grew up playing games in the arcade and I've played hundreds of online games of SCII.

You being impressed some insane koreans going gaga for a game and making a gaming league for it is different.

I don't care how you put it, that games about building everything fast.

Please fanbois refrain, I like both games. I'm gonna have to respectfully maintain my stance that COH is definitely not arcady.

No matter what starcraft is about acting first, and the build tree is as linear as COD's Singleplayer campaign. Resource gathering again being an age old mechanic.

I'll stick with COH where you can be on top of resources and a clever player just has to outwit you tactics wise and topple it all with just a few units.

I love both games, but to say COH is arcady compated to SC2 is a joke.

and please spare the popularity / professional league argument. That's all because in it's time it was the most balanced RTS in existence. It improved where Warcraft II literally copied the units and just re skinned them.

This has nothing to do with the differentiation between Arcady or not.

more destructible terrain, slightly better graphics, some new maps, none of this hero rpg/rts bullshit that the genre seems to be shclepping itself into. thats it. so easy not to fuck this up. crossing all appendages for luck, cause i think we're gonna need it.

Oh you must be talking about Starcraft II

If by arcadey you mean the only RTS since Broodwar with enough balance, depth and skill ceiling to sustain a professional esports scene, then yes.

CoH is brilliant by any measure and is very deep for an RTS. Good luck on informing us on what is better?

Why, a little game released in 1998, that has become a cultural phenomenon, has two dedicated television channels, sustained 13 years of professional competition, changed lives and livelihoods and created enough Legends and drama to be a bona fide sporting spectacle.

You might also have heard of it's successor; It's not quite as good as the original yet but is still, by every objective measure, a better game than COH.
