Op Ed

Kotaku - Nerds and Male Privilege.
The idea that perhaps the way women are portrayed in fandom is aleetle sexist is regularly met with denials, justifications and outright dismissal of the issue. So regularly, in fact, that there's a Bingo card covering the most common responses. Part of the notion of male privilege in fandom is that nothing is wrong with fandom and that suggestions that it might benefit from some diversity is treated as a threat.

But what is that threat, exactly?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Nerd white knight writes article to score points with women in his geek dating column. Film and screenshots at 11.

I think it's hilarious how women can dress like whores for everyday activities (school, work, shopping) and then complain when they get ogled or wonder why men don't respect them.

Next time try using a bit of subtlety, when you troll this obviously people are likely to just ignore or patronise you.

Have you heard about the whole "slutwalk" movement going on worldwide? As the saying goes, misogynists aren't born, they're made. Its like the gals who decry that "breasts aren't sexual, they're just for feeding babies!" while wearing low cut tops showing off their clevage. "Don't look at me you nerd/creep/whatever! Thats eye-rape!"

Anyway, I'll care about sexism in games (and yes women in chail mail bikini's are often outright silly but enjoyable to look at) when men are treated realistically in romance novels and chick flicks but then they wouldn't be chick flicks now would they. When women will openly acknowledge, that yes Virginia, romance novels are porn for women, I'll give a good gosh darn about video game sexism.

You want a "non sexist" female centric game, go make it yourself. At which point, you'll have an adventure game done up like a romance novel with much ravaging of the fair maiden on the poop deck by the misunderstood rapscallion Fabio (isn't he just dreamy?). And I won't care and even cheer it on if it makes Steam's top ten seller's list. I'm sure there will be plenty of white knight nerds who will buy it to show off how enlightened they are to their girlfriends. Who are in Canada (insert location a long ways away from you here) but just a skype/vent/teamspeak call away.
