Op Ed

Cryptic Sea - F**k the GDC. Thanks Morris.
Since the email didn't specify any reason why it wasn't accepted I can only speculate, but I suspect part of the reason was that I'm not famous enough. There's been some really mediocre talks at the IGS, with people literally phoning it in, but they're well known indies so they get accepted. If Notch wanted to do a talk on potato chips it would probably get in. Since I've spent the last few years working on various projects that haven't been completed for one reason or another, and I haven't tried to be part of the "indie scene", I've missed out on the indies are cool wave.

Angry emo dev uses white whine. It's not very effective.
Intahnetz uses world class embarrassment. It's super effective.

Confirmed, link is dead. Hopefully I still have it cached at home.

I checked Cryptic Sea's twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/crypticsea/statuses/142361681291509760) and saw this:
Lucretiel: @crypticsea Be careful removing blog posts like that. The internet never forgets.
crypticsea: @Lucretiel It wasn't me, Anthony Weiner hacked into my account

My guess is someone from GDC contacted him about it and said something like "look, we just have too many indie devs talking about indie dev. you have no hook." and he realized he was getting all cranky over bad timing. Hope he doesn't give up on giving a talk, though.

That link is dead. Is it a bandwidth issue or did buddy get a clue and take down his whining?

New goal in life: Figure out how to host a GDC panel without ever developing a game, just to royally piss this guy off.

Angry non-indie dude is angry that he's considered non-indie.

There you have it. If you want to be a part of a community you should probably take the steps necessary to actually participate in that community. In this case, that includes making, and finishing, games, and actually being a part of the "scene". If no one knows who you are, or what you've done, why the fuck would they want to listen to you?

That was embarrassing to read. Rejection happens, hold your head high and move on. Ranting like this just reinforces any negative impressions people had.

That was painful to read. On the one hand I understand the frustration, on the other that delivery was unprofessional to the point of whiny.
