Skyrim Ships 7M

ZeniMax Media announces having shipped seven million units of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, saying they expect Bethesda Softworks' RPG sequel to generate more than $450 million in global retail sales. "We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim," said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media. "Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company’s history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides."

My friend was hoping that it would go back in time to the height of the Dwemer. I thought that would be cool as fuck.
I think having the entire Dwemer race reappear just as they were when they vanished at the battle of red mountain, in the current time of the elder scrolls would be really interesting. Think of the conflicts an old powerful race of mer, with their advanced technology, suddenly showing up across Morrowind, Skyrim, Hammerfell and High Rock would cause.
I wonder if he reads them, or if it's just for show.

Ahhhh, my bad Elite I totally ignored that whole thing because it seemed ludicrous, how did it end up playing out anyway?

Fine if you want to powergame, but otherwise I'd ignore it. The kind of equipment you can make through high level smithing makes you ridiculously powerful. Like literally untouchable to everything in the game. It turns the whole thing into a giant bore.

Agreed, Min/Maxing Skyrim is a quick way to end your enjoyment of it. A friend of mine powerleveled smithing and hes just stomping around the game destroying everything now.

I like that my high level assassin/thief can still get his ass handed to him if a Bear jumps him.

To each his own, of course.

As for not fucking up your character, eh, just put all your early skills in boosting wpn damage and armor. Quite frankly, with sneak and one-handed, I'm not sure why you'd need destruction added to it. You'll already murder everything with a dagger. It helps not to spread things out. Focus on ONE way of dealing damage. Ie, bows, or swords, or magic. Don't try to keep two up at the same time, you just don't get enough perks. (which I also like.)

Does nobody read anything anymore? Sigh Hit escape. Go to controls. The #5 and #6 entries say Left Hand and Right Hand. Behind them they say M1 and M2. Switch them around. Tadaaa, bug solved.

I think the issue is that they shouldn't have been mapped like that in the first place. It's completely illogical.

To you, maybe. To me it makes perfect sense. In pretty much every RPG like this, the left mouse button attacks with the main weapon, which is in your right hand. And the right mouse button blocks if you have a shield, which is in your left hand. Both Morrowind and Oblivion used this scheme.

And now in Skyrim it's completely illogical?

Whatever. In any case, you can change it in one of the main menus, and nobody seems to be able to find it even though it's right there in front of them.

Bets on where the next one takes place?

Summerset Isle and/or Valenwood, with a focus on the rise of the Second Aldmeri Dominion. I imagine it would be a rather interesting setting. You can help the Dominion or maybe play as a resistance fighter, or maybe as a covert agent of the Empire.... "Should I help or hinder the Nazi Elves?"

Also, both Summerset and Valenwood would keep with the tradition of each Elder Scrolls sequel being later, alphabetically speaking, then the previous one.
Don't start anything you can't finish. Preferably to component atoms.

I definitely think it is the best game in the series (UI aside).

They learned from their past mistakes. They learned how to balance a "you can do anything type sandbox" with "Immersing the player in the world with some story". While there are stupid little generic quests like "bounties"... A majority of the quests are actually well done. They even took a page from Bioware's formula, by sending an NPC with you on several of the quests, that talks and helps immerse you in the objective. They even have a war to participate in (Imperials vs. Stormcloaks), and you will be taking over forts and raiding them with multiple NPC soldiers... again, another page taken from Bioware... and it works well.

Honestly... I really don't like the UI... but I can live with it. If you are refusing to play the game because of the UI, I pity you... you are really missing out. I can think of much worse designs... like Fable III's inventory system, or Gothic's combat system. With hope, there will be a good UI mod in the near future, but I'm not going to let the UI stop me from enjoying this game.

As for the people that are saying it's not hard core RPG enough... not enough skills, or not enough stuff to micro-manage on your character... well... that's your opinion and I understand where you are coming from... however, for me it's more about immersion than micro-managing, and I really don't care if they had to cut some of the old things out... there's still plenty to choose and manage / strategize on to consider it an RPG, IMO.

Actually, that's about how many were in Oblivion. Skyrim has over 70, and I can definitely tell the difference.

I'm sure you're correct, I was exaggerating but regardless of the actual number there is a lot of overlap. I understand it's unavoidable with such a large "cast" of characters in the world but I think they could have spread them out better, the intro wagon guy alone I've heard dozens of times already and sometimes several instances in the same city.

The actual mechanics aren't great. Again, it's an RPG-lite console game designed for console gamers from bottom to top. The flavour, size, and artwork are enough to compensate for it however and keep things interesting enough to want to see what's over the next hill. It's not as good as Oblivion or Morrowind but it's grander and prettier. I find it amusing people saying it's the best CRPG ever made. Hey, whatever floats your boat, but for me it's not even in my top 10.

I don't get how any of that makes it a Fallout 3 TC but whatever, you're welcome to your opinion. Those are very shallow surface comparisons that totally ignore the rest of the huge experience it has to offer. The lockpicking system? I mean come on, that's just reaching. I agree that the UI is balls but it's workable and I don't need to spend much time in it anyway beyond leveling up and crafting. Acting like you got conned out of $60 is a bit dramatic, we all knew the score when it came to Bethesda UIs beforehand.

There are a ton of other things to criticize about the game anyway, I encountered a few broken quests last night that are a part of the main story for example. I think the blocking mechanics are a bit dodgy. Complaining about the UI is shooting fish in a barrel. The terrible hotkey/favorite interface is far more worthy of derision. How about the fact that there are something like 15 total voice actors? I've heard the same guy about 30 times now and I've barely scratched the surface. The dragons are one of the easiest enemies in the game due to the terrible canned nature of their AI routine. The list goes on and despite that it's still a pretty great game.

I still can not believe I paid $60 for a Fallout 3 TC.

It really has nothing in common with Fallout 3 so I have no idea where this comes from. They are both sandbox games, that's about it. It's like saying you paid $60 for a GTA TC. The UI isn't good but with some mouse sensitivity fixes I've been able to work with it.
I don't know. Just that after struggling through the opening bits to me it just felt like a reskinned Fallout 3. I understand the point of leaving some things the same so they are familer to people who played their previous games but come on.

Lockpicking is the same. Pain sound/visual effects are the same. Ambiance in the caves in during the opening just feels exactly the same as fallout. The stupid random 'kill cam' crap is the same. All stuff I experienced in 15 min and severely put me off making it feel as if I paid $60 for something people used to make in their basements. Shit... the people who made TC's in their basement made better UI's!

On the UI - really the PC implementation is pis poor, clicking on chat options register as not clicking on them, mouse wheel scrolling is erratic, selecting items to sell or changing categories drop you straight our at random as if you clicked off the sell menu or hit tab, and navigating proficiency trees are just idiotic how it at random decides to go to the wrong point or a different tree..., also why is scrolling through the skills so SLOW, and why can't we sort our loot by value/weight/damage/armor class/type? - Having to scroll through all your stuff to find out these things a simple sort would do is ridiculous. Binding Items/powers directly to keys and have mwheel scroll through them? I like the Favorites menu as a extra, but not the overriding 'lord' that it imposes itself to 1-8 shortcuts (WHICH ARE BUGGED because they unbind themselves at random).

I know mods will probably fix these things, but really..., these are glaring UI bugs and plainly expected reasonable "normal" features.

Still a great game, but UI bugs detract/frustrate the most in my opinion.
I am just commenting on this because these are all things I can not stand with the game. To the point, at least for me, it makes the game unplayable. I have never played a game on PC that has had this level of consolitis when it comes to the UI.
