Skyrim Arrives

The Bethesda Blog marks today's release of The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim, the RPG sequel so highly anticipated that they need not even mention its name:
Today’s the big day! To help celebrate the occasion, IGN got artist Bashir Sultani to pay tribute to the game with salt art. Awesome stuff!

From everyone at Bethesda, we hope you enjoy the game as much as we did making it. Have a great weekend playing!
PC Gamer offers a guide on tweaks for the PC edition to improve graphics, disable Vsync, change FOV, and more and HARDOCP has a performance and IQ preview.

Got this from Redbox this morning, have the full day off...but 2 children to watch. Can't wait for nap time! Ordered sleeping gas for just this occasion! (kidding) From watching the quick look on giant bomb and that 12 hour marathon I can't wait to get into this game. I love the map. Everytime they bring that up I'm in awe.

Job #1. Ride a dragon. I'm going to figure out how to ride a dragon and I shall rule the dragons!

Awesome, awesome game. Absolutely loving it, even though I've done basically the first quest and that's it.

Combat is still a little weak, but it's meatier than in Oblivion. I love the changes to Magicka (sustained spells are the shit), and really love that archery is a valid option now.

It looks absolutely gorgeous. I just set everything to Ultra then scaled down the FSAA and AF a bit. It runs smooth as silk with every draw distance set to absolutely max on my 5850, core i5-2500. Load times off my SSD are basically non-existant. I can't even read the little loading screen blurbs, because they only pop up for half a second or so.

Love the toolbags who brag that the console version is better. Yeah, enjoy your 14 foot draw distance while I'm firing arrows at monsters on the next mountain over, fellas.

Btw, for those who haven't figured it out yet, you CAN assign hotkeys to weapons, but you have to put the weapon in your favorites menu first. Cumbersome, but at least it's possible. I haven't figured out yet if and how you can hotkey a certain combination, though. So far the hotkeys seem to always equip stuff in my right hand. I can't seem to get a hotkey to draw a sword in my right hand and a heal spell in my left hand at the same time.

Oh, and the Khajit look absolutely fantastic now. As soon as I saw it, I had to play one.

NPC faces are still a bit clunky, and animations leave a bit to be desired, but all in all it's a fantastic game.

Time to do some tweaks.

HardOCP should have a tweak program for you all to download and install to fix all the issues shortly

PC from steam... First impressions last night-
Good god this interface is horrible and inconsistent!
And look the game has crashed within 15 min of starting...

So this looks like a mediocre console port. Will see if patches do anything...

I think I will goto work today instead of staying home playing it.
(yes its that bad)

Not sure, ask yourself. Since your version is a direct port of the console version you would know!

I still have not seen one argument that would convince me to go PC on this title. Not one. Mods? really? See comment below I made. How many of you people are really still playing Oblivion with mods? How long did that last you? Of course for those of you PC jockeys that dont play MMO's because they are too complicated (I think FPS games are the most that you people here can handle) and you cant get into them I might understand, but otherwise mods are pointless

LOL a mandatory install compared to the mega giggage download you all have to do? It was over in no time and Im running great with full features that you all have to tweak to get it to even function properly because of another shitty console to PC port.

Let me know how your video card fucks up your game and sound card causes crashes. Ill be kicking back and enjoying the game. Get back to me when the "SKYRIM TWEAK PACKAGE" is downloadable on HardOCP.

Mods.

There, your entire house of cards came crashing down at one abbreviated word.

I'm not sure why anyone on a 60hz LCD monitor would want to disable Vsync. Every single time I've done that I can't stand the screen tearing. I could see it if you were using a 120hz monitor and your machine couldn't keep up with 120fps, but recommending that as a blanket "improvement" for everyone is dubious. If your system does 60fps with no problems, and your monitor is 60hz, you should be using vsync for the smoothest experience.

Its probably the code throttling, it detected your PC was 'Too fast' (OH NOES!) and tries to pull everything back to the default console shitzola settings, which makes it crash. If thats true its a sad state..

Yes please use that thread while you try to fix your PC's to get the game to run properly.

Run properly as in not like a console? I believe the lowest setting right now is console setting, so tweaks are done to improve that.

Hay tard (welcome to the tard list) it isn't for fixing pcs, it is for tweaking, mods, etc.

Go to the xbox forums you newb.

You are an idiot if you only play this game for 40 hours.

Oh no not mods....for a game I will play 40 hours and never touch again! OH NO...no...

Plus I can resell it and trade it in for other more important games that will make us all forget about Skyrim in two months probably. Yeah, thats a real bummer!

One thing I REALLY love about Skyrim is the snow effects. My god they're beautiful. I walked up a mountain and almost got lost when the snow got bad. Talk about immersion. I look forward to playing again tonight with the tweaks being posted around the forums (like increasing FOV). This is going to be one of those 100+ hour games.

Yea pretty much the consolers have been holding back dev studios from pushing the boundaries of what can be done. I hope eventually they will just fade away back to hand helds where they belong.

I bought a used 360 for $75 so I could play NHL11. Hooked it up to my 1920x1200 monitor.

The thing can't do hi-res modes without dropping frames, especially when the puck is in your end. I also noticed that player's faces become generic and fuzzy during game play and are only detailed between plays; an effort to increase performance I presume.

Then there are the mods.....oh wait, there are none!

Anyway, best head down to the mall and pick up my copy of PC Skyrim

Ill be playing on a 55" TV. Have fun!

My 30" monitor is bigger than your TV due to how close I sit to it. Also no crashes at all, some forum complaints do not equal an epidemic.

Bethesda games are really not the ones you want to use as examples of "better on console" at all. Quite silly. The graphics differences are quite significant and mods will be amazing.
