Skyrim Arrives

The Bethesda Blog marks today's release of The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim, the RPG sequel so highly anticipated that they need not even mention its name:
Today’s the big day! To help celebrate the occasion, IGN got artist Bashir Sultani to pay tribute to the game with salt art. Awesome stuff!

From everyone at Bethesda, we hope you enjoy the game as much as we did making it. Have a great weekend playing!
PC Gamer offers a guide on tweaks for the PC edition to improve graphics, disable Vsync, change FOV, and more and HARDOCP has a performance and IQ preview.

30" monitor wow thats awesome! Good for you for living well below your means and saving money for your gaming "rig"

Not sure what century you are living in but I have never seen dime sized pixels. Must be an old PC gamer curmudgeon thing.

Yeah a $1500 monitor is living below your means. Console players are a joke.

Yeah, I was about to say, someone never priced out 30" monitors...

No crashes or issues at all here. Game works quite well and with a higher FOV it looks pretty damn good as well.

The UI is definitely a straight console port, but honestly I think it works pretty well. Since it was designed around four points of a stick it also feels designed around WASD. It's quick and easy to access and control for the most part, only the level-up menu felt cumbersome to me.

The game so far seems much better than Oblivion already, but I'm still very early on.

Yea pretty much the consolers have been holding back dev studios from pushing the boundaries of what can be done. I hope eventually they will just fade away back to hand helds where they belong.

And developers love that as it keeps development time and costs down.

"What can be done" is also limited by those, you know.

LOL 6 year old hardware lets see a lot has changed since then, DX11 for a start...but keep dreamin the dream. you will get your new 'box' in 3 or 4 years. I heard the new one will have even more funny colored buttons on the controller made simple with A,B,C in big bold letters on the buttons

I will be playing it on my Dell UltraSharp U3011 30 inch monitor @ 2560 x 1600.

Have fun!

LOL a mandatory install compared to the mega giggage download you all have to do? It was over in no time and Im running great with full features that you all have to tweak to get it to even function properly because of another shitty console to PC port.

Let me know how your video card fucks up your game and sound card causes crashes. Ill be kicking back and enjoying the game. Get back to me when the "SKYRIM TWEAK PACKAGE" is downloadable on HardOCP.

There are few times I could ever defend a console version over PC and this is not one of them. The mods are what truly separates Bethesda games from the pack. There will be thousands of them eventually and you will be kicking yourself for not playing the PC version. Of course that along with the lower fps, lower screen rez, and such.

Found this gem on Reddit:

Saw alot of people asking how to assign weapons to numbers. Asign them to your favourites with the F key, click Q then hit the number buttons on the highlighted weapons. Now you can use that to switch fast.

WAY TO FUCKING HIDE THAT, BETH. Not that I expect much else from them in the area of UIs. I think we're just one step away from having them ship the game with a custom mouse that's dripping shit from the sides.

Yep, if you want lower screen rez, lower FPS, and no mods, the console version is the way to go here!

I dont think this needs any further defense:

Fix common crash to desktop problem

Ill be playing on a 55" TV. Have fun!

? I can hookup my pc to my 46 inch LCD tv via HDMI - why in the world would I play it on xbox!?

It was cool to see how many people were playing last night at unlock. I was neck deep in MW3 and bam bam bam bam bam bam bam people started showing up nonstop in the message window about playing skyrim. very cool.

Rights now, out of the 10 people playing in my steam list, 7 are playing Skyrim.

I looked forward to getting it after a few patches and playing through SR3.

I don't think my laptop will even run it (2 year old Dell studio 15, I7 processor). It does run Oblivion so I guess you never know.

If I had a console I'd be all over that version but the only thing we have is a DS, and texture quality on that might maybe be an issue.

Cuse me while I point and laugh at you, repeatedly until the tears stream down my face and I run out of breath.

BTW, how is the console version working for ya? With either a mandatory install for the PS3, or if you install the 360 disc's you get low textures due to a bug?
