Out of the Blue

Early this morning Daylight Saving Time ended around these parts. My story on this is always the same: Love the extra hour for today, and hate standard time for the next six months, as it gets dark depressingly early. Blah.

Looking at that I too would be for a general 2 hour nudge forward - yeah it'd be a pretty drastic time change but it'd make the winter a lot less depressing. I'll never understand what fracking smeghead even decided DST like that was a good idea. You'd think it'd be important to make the evening brighter in winter (when most people start getting depressed?) but i guess that played no role in this decision when it was made.

Just generally nudge time 2 hours forward in winter, and 1 back from that in summer. Meh

With the sun down by the time I get home, it just feels like the day is done and there's nothing worth doing except getting ready for dinner + bed.

Which accounts for the spike in depression and suicide from here until Feb/March. I feel the same way. When it is dark when I get home, it is depressing and difficult to get motivated to go outside and do anything. One of the many reasons I went home early yesterday to get stuff done.

meh - its a wash, either do it on the front end or the back end. I would rather it stay sunnier later, and would even support a 2 hour jump or so to give evening sunlight....

Agreed, it's really strange to be jogging at 4:30pm and have it be nearly dark outside, every day for five months.

I really hate the whole daylight thing... I don't care of it's dawn when I'm on my way to work because I *just* woke up and will be inside a concrete building for the next 8.5 hours.

But I hate it being dark already by the time I get home. Going outside to do anything seems like a waste. I'm not the biggest fan of driving in the dark because of *certain* joggers that don't know what they're doing (wearing black, jogging on wrong side of road, not paying attention, etc).

I still shake my head at something from like 5 years back, some idiot was in a long black trenchcoat, bending down to tie his shoes, in the middle of a poorly-lit street near a bend in the road. And he was pissed at ME for honking at him. In that position, he might as well be Batman hiding with his cape. So at that time of day, I get joggers AND people walking home at night.

With the sun down by the time I get home, it just feels like the day is done and there's nothing worth doing except getting ready for dinner + bed.

Oh yeah, finally picked up Dark Souls. Game is like riding a bike (thank god), got right back into the swing of things after having not played and Demon's Souls for about a year. Only died at the first boss (not the tutorial boss, the REAL boss) one time before wiping the floor with his fat ass. Got me a Black Knight Sword off the first one I killed and am now takin NAMES.

The BKS is ridiculously overpowered, lol. I'm still using it at level 60+, though upgraded. Nothing else I've found does as much physical damage, plus it looks AWESOME.

I'll never understand why we even have these stupid time trickeries. In todays age all normal time does is increase power usage because it gets darker earlier (and thus colder earlier) which means you have to heat 1 hour more... Why not all settle on summer time for the winter? So bleh, its dark in the morning, but at least it won't be dark untill evening (and not like now, afternoon)
Ditto. Put it back to daylight and keep it there forever! DTV Pal DVR, iPhones, etc. are having problems with these time changes! I have a poll about these time changes: http://aqfl.net/node/5466 ...
