Hopefully most people on here had Doom 3 at release, and there was a lot of shock at the fact most of our so called uber pcs couldn't cope.
But here's the thing: Doom 3 looked fucking INCREDIBLE on High (not to mention Ultra) settings. It was easy to see WHY our PCs weren't coping. The game was beautiful beyond anything we'd ever seen before (even if all the textures still had that trademark id 'plastic' look to them.)
Can you really say that Tech5 is beautiful beyond anything you've ever seen? The distant scenery looks amazing, but anything close up looks, quite frankly, like 8-bit texture work.
And with the driver finally running well, and id having disabled their idiot auto-detection mechanism, my PC is coping just fine with Rage. In fact, I rarely dip below 60fps. And that's on a 3.5 year old box with a 5850.
Does it look better than Borderlands and FO:NV? Yeah, it does. I'd HOPE it does, seeing as how they're both coming up on 3 years old (let's face it, FO:NV is just a new adventure in the FO3 engine.)
If I compare Rage to Just Cause 2, I think Just Cause 2, on the PC, looks better. AND it's a completely open world, whereas Rage can only offer tiny-ass corridors (even in the so called "wasteland) and tons of invisible walls.
Tech5 can quickly go away again as far as I'm concerned, because the tradeoffs just aren't worth it.
