Out of the Blue

That Cooper's Hawk seems to be hanging around our backyard pretty regularly now, which is cool, though I haven't gotten another close-up look at him again. I'm guessing he must be making the occasional meal out of the birds that come to our feeder, which is unfortunate, though it is nature in action. I guess this makes me an accessory before-the-fact to his hunting, as unintentional as this may be.

Reminds me of stories about the U.S. years ago where politicians would have parties on election day and encourage the drunk party people to vote for them. To this day, some states have laws about liquor stores on election day, like they can't open until the polls close or are closed altogether.

I think that voting histories should be public and also peoples salaries, especially in corporations. Public knowledge available to everyone or at the very least everyone who works for the company. And I don't vote, but if I did I wouldn't care who knew that I voted for one person or the other, I mean what's the big secret??

For those that don't know, Ontario is holding it's provincial election today. Anyway somthing odd, and I think, definitely inappropriate just occured. Some guy from the NDP campaign just showed up at the door saying that they noticed I hadn't voted yet and they'd be happing to drive me over so I could vote. A) The shool is around the corner B) As I told him whether I vote or not isn't anyone's business as not voting is a choice as well. C) Even though he said he wasn't asking me to vote for them he was definitely implying I should vote for them.

No sir, I don't like it.

Wait, how exactly did he "notice" that you hadn't voted yet? Voting records are supposed to be private.

Good stuff man, this comment is great, along with the Hans Gruber sig : )

I just re-watched this (HH, not DH) movie a few months back... Good stuff, and I usually don't much care for stupid-funny.

Back in college, a Hawk (or something) had killed one of the pigeons near the green / quad / common area. Afterwards it sat perched on top of an awning, surrounded by pigeon feathers and what-not. Just chilling and doing its thing.

Some students were actually angry at the Hawk, going on "that monster, why would it do that?"

People had to respond: "Because it was hungry, it's EATING. That's what it does."

Don't feel bad for the birds, it's just nature doing it's thing. Though, if Hawks become too reliant on Bird Feeder Buffets then they might lose their skills and suffer down the road.

so how do you feel about consigning poor little seed eating birds to a quick death in the beak of some vicious hawk, just so you can catch a glimpse of them hopping around your back yard? you are a tyrant!

I've heard that a bird feeder that attracts seed eating birds occasionally becomes a bird-of-prey feeder by extension. We have a red-tailed hawk that hangs around our neighborhood, I believe for that reason.
