Not really.
Id is last to innovate on gameplay and (by reputation) first to innovate on graphic engines. Look at old forum posts and you'll see the exact same complaints made about pretty much every id release since Quake.
Half Life? That could have been id, but no - that's outside their little run-n-gun bubble. Bioshock? No, that's outside their bubble too. None of the groundbreaking games have come from id for years now.
I'm not revising history here.
But I'm not trying to start a pointless argument either. If you like id games and the style of gameplay they have, awesome. More for you, okay?
