The issue is that none of this really applies to your argument. If a game developer wants to force a yellow tint, or if they want bloom, I agree they should be able to force it. It's their presentation.
But you're arguing against varying parts of presentation. Obviously id doesn't care what shadows you have as the game will choose different shadows based upon computer power. So why not put that in the hands of power users? As best as I know it's a simple check box, as the game can do it either way. Again, this isn't like forcing bloom, as some games are designed around such features and look ridiculous without it as no one ever intended to see it without that feature.
This is less like a movie director telling you that you have to watch his cut and more like a movie director telling you that due to the size of your living room you're not allowed to watch the movie on anything larger than a 37" tv.
