I've been playing for a few hours and am enjoying it quite a bit. I'm on an NVIDIA card and am not seeing many issues other than screen tearing (which I'm trying to resolve now).
So far I'm not disappointed with the purchase but I'll reserve full judgment until I beat the game.
EDIT: Here are the tweaks I made and now it seems to be running perfectly.
1. Create this directory: c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\id software\rage -- a cache file is supposed to exist here but the directory doesn't get created as part of install.
2. In steam, r-click your game, goto properties, and add the following line into the startup parameters: +cvaradd g_fov 20 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 +set com_allowConsole 1 +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024 +ik_enablesmoothing 0 +image_usecompression 0 +jobs_numthreads 4 +mem_phymemblocksizem 3072 +m_smooth 0 +m_rawinput 1
3. I downloaded the latest BETA drivers from Nvidia and installed them. The version is 285.38 - for reference, my video card is a GTX 560.
4. While RAGE is not running, visit the Nvidia control panel and change Vsync from "Application Controlled" to "Force On".
