RAGE doesn't have a co-op focus. The single-player campaign is single-player only. There are some extra co-op modes but they definitely aren't the focus of the game. RAGE also doesn't have a bazillion slightly different weapons. It has a much more focused set of unique weapons instead. It doesn't have any stats or leveling either.

It's not like Borderlands, except for the setting. It's also not open world. It's a fairly linear shooter set in the appearance of a large open world.
It's incredibly similar to Borderlands, just with more realistic graphics. Same setting, same semi-openworld gameplay, same use of vehicles, same focus on co-op, same use of supersized bosses, same mission based nature, etc. Some of the enemies even look very similar.

Don't get me wrong, they're obviously two separate games and the lore for each is very distinct. But they very similar, both in gameplay and setting.

So is this like Oblivion with guns / Boarderlands? The few trailers ive seen look pretty good. Is it open world? Been looking for something to fill the gap till BF3 / Skyrim come out.

I believe you're free to take on a few side missions and/or battle in the car arena when you feel like it, but everything else is basically "Get quest 1, go here, kill everyone, return, get quest 2, go there, kill everyone, return" etc.

If you pre order a physical copy on amazon, the release date shipping is free - all the other shipping methods cost extra and take longer.

Been trying to pre-load since last night. Tried a half dozen different download server and keep getting told the Steam servers are too busy. Seriously, is Valve ever going to learn to scale? I bought the pre-order code on Direct2Drive on a sale, I wonder if it's aware of which ones are from third parties and assigns them differently. If I download the 17GB installer from Direct2Drive, does anyone know what that actually does? This is a Steamworks game so is it just a big chunk of the game assets Steam folder?

It's just a bug with the content servers, nothing sinister. They have the head room, the servers are just rejecting it for some reason. Maybe the file hasn't fully propogated yet. I got mine through a third party and was able to preload promptly on the first try.

I still feel burned paying some $59-$69 or however much it cost back then for Doom 3... It dropped in value very fast.

I think this is related to a bug in the client more than to poor infrastructure. Just my uninformed hit.

Hmmm, my preload only took an hour and 15 minutes last night. Sucks that so many people have trouble not even connecting.

i feel sorry for my buddy in the army though, when he finally does connect it'll probably take him 2 days to download it with his connection.

You're not missing much, since most of us Steam users can't preload anyway. "The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle anymore preloads of RAGE". That's been the case for at least 16 hours.

Wish I could preload now also to save time later :(, but I'll have to wait for newegg to deliver my retail copy. Well at least I save $12 so it's not that big a deal :).

Technologically maybe it's marvel. However as for the gameplay, in-game footage so far gave me underwhelming impression. Shooting aspect feels really bland.

Their servers must be borked or something. Been too busy for 15 hours now. It acts like it's not even checking (tells me it's too busy immediately after pressing the button, no delay at all). Lots of other people having the same problem.

The game is still six days from launch here in the UK, so the preload frenzy should drop off in plenty of time for me to grab it before release. Still, I find it disappointing that none of the Steam content servers are even close to maxed out and yet I'm still being told that the servers are too busy. They're not too busy... Valve just doesn't want to pay for the extra bandwidth required.
