Dead Island DLC Waits for Patches

Plans to release DLC for Dead Island are on the back-burner for the moment until Techland can complete patching the various editions of the zombie game "Right now the Dead Island development team's priority is working on fixes and updates across all platforms so that we can take care of all of the fans who have been so supportive of our game," a spokesperson told Kotaku. "There is some awesome DLC content planned for Dead Island, but first we have to put all our focus on the base game experience." One patch for the Windows edition was released the day the game shipped, and this this tweet indicates a patch for the Xbox 360 version is also now available. As noted on MTV Multiplayer, this tweet mentions patch plans as well: "Updates for PS3 and PC users are also coming - info will be posted as soon as it's available."

How some of you can enjoy playing broken or incomplete PC games for near retail price is beyond me.

Nowadays, for regular retail price I expect a full, 95% finished, quality product and most console ports like this one don't come close.

I just find it wrong to buy and support this on PC.

Well, lets break down this troll post.

1. Broken or incomplete? I take it you never played.
2. Game had community and retail patches within 24 hours.
3. The game was $40.00
4. For $60.00 you should demand more than what you are asking in your next point.
5. The developers have supported this game more than anyone has supported their product, sans CD Projeckt

Go back to CoD.....a broken, overpriced, incomplete, content locked, ADD kiddie game.

And how this game is the end of the world for some people here is beyond me.

It was only like that for a few days, its quite playable now. There are some advanced tweaks that the DIH utility provides that I wish were in-game but even many modern native PC games don't offer them so raging out seems kinda pointless.

Based on the number of hours I've played thus far, Dead Island ranks up there with Terraria in value. And I didn't pay $40 for Terraria.

I very rarely pay full price for any (console port) games these days, but after reading a ton of reviews and insane urging from this guy I work with, I picked it up on Steam....

...and Holy Shit this game is fun as hell! Buggy as all hell, but there is a Helper this guy made that runs in the background and fixes/mods a ton of stuff. True, these problems never should have made it to retail, but I'm having a blast 6 hours in and I'm only level 7 out of 50. It's a little Left4Dead but with some rpg and it's baddass.

I urge all gamers to get it!

By my scoresheet, Techland gets a -1 for releasing an unfinished project, +5 for releasing a fun game and ensuring it's in tip-top shape before worrying about further monetizing the property.

So they're still ahead.

Eh I agree it's probably not worth $50 yet. I got mine for $37.50 because of a 4 pack. Keep forgetting about that.

I'm having a good time with it. People were complaining it's nothing but loot quests but I am enjoying the exploring and trying to find new weapons. I did change the FOV and modified the same file to improve sidestepping\lateral speed.

Just finished some "mission" where I had to turn off some electricity to get in a garage. Was not the simple throw lever but had to look around and see what was needed to get the job done.

The game freaks me out. Always finding myself looking behind me for a zombie.

I honestly don't notice the animations at all. Too focused on things to loot and zombies to beat.

Besides when your driving around running down zombies you don't see your passengers anyway.

Wow, your missing out. Probably the best game so far this year for me. Trust me it picks up later in the game.

Like they say, better late then never.

I wholeheartedly disagree... I respect companies that don't try to spin their mistakes into PR, and instead spend their time fixing without trying to brand themselves heroic : )

I remember the days when you knew a company would just fix their game before cashing in on bug fixed DLC.

That's a commendable attitude. 99.99999% of all developers can learn something from these guys. (Though "how to release a game" is not one of those things.)

It's true Player Animations suck, right now in the Steam Modding thread it's what I'm working on/trying to find as are others. My idea is to substitute Players with NPC bodies. We're looking for the/a method, atm.

It would be nice if everyone ran around as one of those bikini clad babes, then we would all have something nice to look at.

You're not playing Dead Island because of player shadows and player animations?

NPC animations are fine, in fact they are well done, same with facial animations. But the multiplayer part of the game has YOU looking at 3 other player characters the body animations are horrible. Why is this a issue to me? Because one of my FAVORITE things to see in a FPS game is my own shadow. Like your body in Jurassic Park Trespasser, FEAR etc, to me it really is something very simple that puts you into the 'body' of the character your playing. So when I see I have a shadow, and feet (bonus points for that) I notice that I have a hole in my shadow between my neck and torso. And if you ever notice while holding weapons your body has some sort of issues with the shoulders and weapons.

It just amazes me with how good of a game it is for me, how little things like this weren't addressed/fixed before the game was launched.

When was the last time that a game that you REALLY wanted to play and had beautiful scenery, had glaring issues such as horrible player model animations, seeing that your neck and head have a hole in it when looking at your shadow, or really lackluster player movements, especially when sidestepping?
