LucasArts' Action/Adventure, FPS, and Aerial Combat Plans

Following the revelation last month that LucasArts is hiring for an unannounced upcoming "Open-World RPG," GameSpot now notes openings for three other unannounced games, an action/adventure, a first-person shooter, and an aerial combat title, with the latter listing (thanks baltar) saying (wait for it X-Wing/TIE Fighter fans): "Experience with flight sims, aerial shooters, and especially space-based shooters a plus."

Tie Fighter 3!!! (Keeps fingers crossed)

Umm, didn't you skip a number?

There was (from Tie Figher, on...):
  • Tie Fighter
  • Tie Fighter: Defender of the Empire (an expansion)
  • Various collections / special editions of Tie Fighter. One had another set of missions.
  • XWing vs Tie Fighter
  • XWing Alliance

This is what I'm betting on. Lucas wants to pretend that Episodes 4-6 don't exist.
I think its more like he wants to try and vindicate his decision to go all whack in ep 1-3. More like "oh yeah? You don't like clone wars? Well you are going get more of it so suck it down!"

Honestly, if the combat is fun and it runs smooth I'd only be slightly let-down if the era was around Ep1-Ep3 instead of Ep4-Ep6. I had loads of fun with XWing Alliance even though a solid percentage involved flying civilian / commercial ships.

That all being said, Tie Fighter is still my favorite PC game ever. And would love a REAL/HONEST/HONORABLE sequel.

I will remain hopeful of a Xwing/TieFighter game, but given the direction of Star Wars games of late I am more inclined to believe that it will be a Clone Wars based space shooter. If it plays like XvT, maybe that wouldn't be terrible, but I remain skeptical.
My principle concern is that they'll make a new Jedi Starfighter game. Yeah, it was technically s space sim, and that's where the similarity ended.

This is what I'm betting on. Lucas wants to pretend that Episodes 4-6 don't exist.

Was Republic Commando any good? I'd considered picking it up since it's $5 on Steam but wasn't sure how it stacked up to other recent Lucas Arts games (i.e. if it sucked or not).

It's the best game they've done since the glory days. Even being set in the shitty Clone Wars doesn't diminish it's quality as a smoothly polished and very well done squad shooter.

Some of the banter was genuinely laugh out loud funny...

"Go get some bacta trooper!"
"Rule 38: never say no to bacta!"
(Later in the game)
"Sev, go heal up."
"Hey Sev, I thought you were invincible!"
"Rule 38: Never say no to bacta"

"Hey, leader's down, does that mean I get to be in charge now?"
"Just go heal him..."

"Woohoo! Wookie life debts for everyone!"

It was some good stuff. Gameplay was standard FPS, but the weapons, squad, banter, and pace of the game was excellent. Also, watching bug juice wipe off your visor with the plasma-wiper thing was always fun.

It'll be X-Wing/ Tie Fighter re-imagined as a 4X game within the Star Wars universe, because time has moved on.

Nah Outlaws is a game that should be left alone. It's such a classic game they should never make a sequel or an addition to it, as a sequel will degrade the legacy that is Lucasart's Outlaws.

Republic Commando is in desperate need for a sequel, especially how the first one ended. Keep the main menu music, Base the story off the books written, then expand on that for a few more missions, and keep that awesome wristblade and were solid

Republic Commando was such an epic game. I would be happy with that and the X-Wing/TIE Fighter games.

Until Lucas passes away or in some other way has creative control wrestled from his eternally waggling meddle-sticks hanging from the end of his meat mitts, I hold absolutely no hope for anything related to the SW franchise being good.
