Wing Commander 3 on GOG.com

GOG.com announces they now offer Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger, the third installment in the Wing Commander series of space combat games. This comes with a wide array of bonus materials, which are outlined on Wing Commander CIC. This is the first of the FMV Wing Commander games, here's a bit:
You are Luke--er--I mean Col. Christopher "Maverick" Blair (played by Mark Hamill). After the destruction of Concordia, you are transferred to an old space ship carrier the TCS Victory, by the order of Admiral Tolwyn. Your mission is to destroy the catlike Kilrathi for good and ensure the survival of humanity. Without delving into spoilers, you are up for yet another episode of this epic struggle between two star nations battling for dominance--and survival. Enter into the life of Maverick, talk to your wingmen on the ship and in outer space, or pursue a romantic relationship with a fellow pilot dancing on the razor’s edge.

Please bring wing commander 1+2 and all special missions, WC3 is good but its below wc1/2 by light years.

Miss this from a couple of weeks ago?

Except special missions 1 and 2 are missing, plus one of these days they should convert the wc1 animations, music and stuff off the 3d0 version of super wing commander, as that was the best wing commander 1 version ever it even included special missions 1 along with extra mission pack.

Ahh yes! You're right, it was a Matrox Mystique. Sheesh, much time has passed since then. The Mystique was an upgrade to an old Diamond video card with 512k vram. I can't recall at the moment the exact Diamond model that card was though.

The Diamond Speedstar. Awesome card.

Oh boy do I remember the Matrox Millenium. Mine came with Destruction Derby, which I loved...but the box in which the video card came in had this freaky looking clown face on it.

If the box had a clown face then you had a Matrox Mystique and not a Millennium, you n00b!
The Millennium came out first and it was always the "professional" 2D card with basic 3D functionality while the Mystique was the gamer variant.
A couple years after WC3, a lot of people in the mid 90s had a Millennium for 2D (Windows/Office) plus a 3Dfx Voodoo for gaming. The Mystique became completely useless once the Voodoo and other better 3D cards came out because Voodoo > TNT > ATI Rage 3D Pro > Mystique.

*reminisces*

You are right about the Millennium proliferating our school office computers. Twas a nice card when it came out!

I enjoyed WC: Privateer more so than WC3. Never tried WC4 though. Maybe after it hits GOG I'll pick that one up.

Don't ever mention My Buddy (and me)...what's with clowns and dolls.

I replayed this a few years ago, and it holds up well. Fun gameplay, and the cut scenes/inbtw stuff is fun. I recommend.

Ooooh, I remember the scary clown face! It made me think "What the hell does this have to do with a videocard?"

Strange days.

I don't know how any of you could like that pseudo movie full motion video crap and terminally ugly single digit polygon ship models better than WC1/2/Privateer.

Was that before or after your mom punched him?

On a sidenote: I still have my WC3 Collectors Edition and everything that came with it. What an awesome game. I agree, WC4 was probably the best in the series, but I upgraded just to play this one...AMD 486DX2-100. Seems so slow by today's standards...

I didnt play this game until it was on 3d0... so major spoiledness I was. The video was almost dvd quality with high quality audio. And the in cockpit videos were also in color.

I want to say I had the PlayStation port of this one. I found some bug that caused the game to freeze, and EA's response was basically "yeah, don't do that".

So I go to the Doctor, and I say, "Doc, It hurts when I do this." So he says: "Don't do that."

Wow! I loved the WC Series. Wasnt sure if they would have it or not. It was like 3 or 4 cd's. Sucker barely ran on my machine. Had to upgrade to a 486dx2 I think it was.

As far as I can remember I had a 486DX2-40 at the time and that was not enough to run the game. You needed at least a DX2-66 but the real fun started at Pentium P5-60/66+ upwards.

Probably what I got. It was so long ago man lol. I hadn't even joined the army yet. 94/95

Oh man, this whole ordeal left an impact-crater on this young man's soul back then

I remember the first time I finished it I ended up on the shuttle home all by my lonesome. At 14 I was far more interested in blowing an entire planet up than I was in listening to either of them flirt with Luke Skywalker. Earmuffs

I remember the pilot being way more hot than the mechanic though.
