Syndicate FPS Confirmed for Next year

EA follows the leak of Syndicate details with the official announcement of the Syndicate remake, confirming this is a first-person shooter as in the works at Starbreeze Studios for release for Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 early next year. "We are excited to finally reveal what we’ve been working on the past couple years," says Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze Studios. "It's been a great experience working with EA, and an amazing opportunity for us to use our expertise in the first person shooter and action genres to bring back, and reignite, the signature action/espionage gameplay of Syndicate." Here's more:
Set in 2069, Syndicate takes players into a dark, Machiavellian world run without government oversight with many syndicates vying for total dominance of their local market place. With no one to question their intentions or actions, three mega corporations – Eurocorp, Cayman Global, and Aspari – are at the forefront of this brutal war for control of the pivotal American market. In the world of Syndicate, everything is digitally connected, including the people. Players aren’t limited to the weapons in their hands. Through DART 6 bio-chip technology implanted in their head, players can slow down time and breach the digital world around them to take down their foes using a variety of upgradable hacking mechanics. Syndicate’s blend of fast-paced, futuristic, action shooter settings and story combined with innovative chip breach gameplay instantly immerses players in a unique digital world.

“Our goal with Syndicate is to provide a challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original. I’m sure they will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic,” says Jeff Gamon, EA Partners Executive Producer. “Fans of the franchise will recognize many weapons and environments in the game, but in a whole new way. The game also provides a separate and deep 4-player co-op mode featuring missions from the original cult classic, which adds another layer of depth to the overall experience.”

Fucking assbags, this is just like Shadowrun. We all heard a new Shadowrun was in the works and geeks everywhere got serious mahogany untill we saw what they did with it. Trading on the name alone only serves to destroy an otherwise valuable IP.
Yeah, this is pretty much what I was thinking of too. Taking the name and raping the game. The Shadowrun designers should be shot for what they did. I'm afraid this might follow that same path.

I hope it's a good FPS. I do pine for isometric gaming sometimes, but I realize that it's just not in vogue anymore. Probably because of how unweildly it is to control an isometric game with a gamepad... not that they're any good at controlling FPSs either, mind you.

I don't know, we've seen a lot of throwback efforts that have been really solid over the past few years so I don't see any reason isometric tactical games couldn't be revisited either. Part of the industrys problem is always shooting for the moon in terms of budgets and development efforts, maybe if they tried more modest goals then we'd see some innovative titles and the industry could make a smaller profit but have less risk inherent. EA could have even used them to sell Origin to users and further their mobile efforts.

Nope, cue the bitching!

You're bitching more about imaginary people bitching than anyone here is actually doing.

Hey, they turn this into something similar to Deus Ex, and I'm all over it like hot butter.

I thought the same, but like I said yesterday, I can see why fans of the original wouldn't want that.

There are still a few, with that number growing.
They just don't sell well so a team like Starbreeze will never be able to produce one and cover expenses, and no one would be able to afford the Syndicate name on the sales a isometric game would bring in. So indie teams need to innovate in gameplay and game design rather than use one that's been dormant for 15 years.

I don't see the loss there. It's certainly better than eastern european teams buying the name and running it into the ground like JA.

I'm not against a good dystopian FPS, hell we just played one. However Syndicate wasn't an FPS so how does this appeal to fans of the original? Meh, I have a feeling it's going to be some consolized POS anyway.

It's like some of you will only be happy if you get pixel-for-pixel remakes.
This is moving so far away that we probably won't even get a map. We'll get a game similar in tone and concept. It will probably be fun, given that it's being handled by a pretty solid developer. It will probably be one of the better FPGs games of its launch year.

And people will still cry and moan that the cars no longer look like eggs.

Moron. Think. An isometric top down tactical game becomes a FPS. Can you not understand why this would throw people.

Yes, but it isn't like anyone here expected a new Syndicate to come out as an isometric top down tactical game, eh? It's been 15 years since the last one, and that one was just ok.

The most recent game for people here to lose their shit over switching perspective was Fallout 3, one of the better games of the past several years. Yet few seem to have learned the lesson of all that bitching and moaning and take a wait-and-see approach. Nope, cue the bitching!

I wonder if Castle Wolfenstein fans sent John Carmack hate mail when Wolfenstein 3D was announced. "It needs to be a third person stealth based platforming game, you're apologizing for the industry and ruining the entire concept!!!!"

Yeah, that's exactly what it's like Rolleyes Stop being a wanker, it's not exactly difficult to see how this could throw people a bit. The only thing that should condition them is their cynicism which you claim is too heavy around here.

"People" keep playing apologist for the industry around here too. I guess they'll cry and moan about anything people say that isn't positive.

The game takes place in America.

I swear I do not understand half of what some people here get their underwear wadded up over. I think some of you are variations of SmarterChild designed specifically to make me nuts, or of late make Jerykk nuts.

Did you play the original game Beamer?

Or better yet, do you live in the real world?

If the answer is yes to either one of these questions you would get my point.

Yes. And I played The American Revolt. I don't see what those things have to do with this thing, though. Same name, not same game.

Of course, if you want to bring out the "derr... did you play the original game" card, you should take offense to it being near-future. Syndicate was 22nd century, not 21st.

If they did something like this, with mind control, it'd be awesome. You'd have to take very little Rainbow Six to make it work, but an initial planning screen with multiple points of entry would be enough.

While I didn't expect them to make another isometric game or something, this is Just Yet Another FPS Game. I hope at some point the console kids get tired of them so we can see some innovation in the gaming industry.

Being a series about future based corporations with augmented soldiers I'm not too surprised.

I think it's the little triangles that do it.
