I watched Mr. Carmack's keynote. Good stuff and it went fast at work. Too bad he didn't show anything. I never knew he was a good technical speaker. Hehe!

iD software kind of lost me sometime after Quake 2.

Roger that - I've had it with running through a dimly lit rat maze. Give me a wide open world to find my own way through. These days I give the leadership nod to DICE, not id.

Now pardon me as I zip up the Nomex.

Yeah, QII was pretty awesome. I booted it up last year, applied some graphical updates and played through some of it again. It was great as a coop game. But QIII was an awesome multiplayer game. I would say that was id's pinnacle. Doom 3 didn't do much for me, and I played the Quake 4 demo, and lost interest. id hasn't done anything decent in a decade. BF, COD, and TF2/HL have pretty much been the trend setters.

That and the unspoken point that consoles bring in the monies.

Egggzactly.

I don't know how much cash Witcher 2 pulled in as a PC exclusive, but I bet it's a drop in the bucket compared to what id's publishers expect.

You may have missed the point of what he's saying.

That and the unspoken point that consoles bring in the monies.

Carmack,
How about you forget the underpowered obsolete consoles and make a modern game that can take advantage of a true high powered PC?

Check steampowered stats to see what an average setup is and then shoot a little higher than that.

Minecraft to begin with a beta? I'm shocked. God forbid Mojang actually finish a piece of software before sending it out to the masses.

Carmack's comment was that even though a PC is 10 times as powerful it is a struggle to get the game running as well on a pc as on a console. The abstraction layers on a PC costs that much processing power.

Then they might get you back with Rage; it seems that good to me.

Certainly I enjoyed Q1 and Q2 far more than everything else they've produced...

It's okay, they replaced you with 10 others.
