Rambo Game Plans

MCV has word that development is underway on a game based on the Rambo series of violent veteran movies. Here's word on the project, which is coming from UK-based publisher Reef Entertainment:
“I am a big fan of Sylvester Stallone movies, and when we had the opportunity to secure the video game rights from StudioCanal for the Rambo franchise, we had to grab it with both hands,” said Reef Entertainment CEO Peter Rezon.

“With the success of the most recent Rambo film, and an international appetite for action movies with Expendables 2 scheduled for release next summer, we felt now was a good time to do something special with this licence.” Craig Lewis, commercial director at Reef added: “We have big ambitions for Reef and the Rambo IP is the first step in establishing us as a worldwide player.

“Rambo will be a triple-A title on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and will capture the gritty atmosphere and full-on action which made the Rambo movies so successful.”

I've only seen the 1951 version courtesy of Horror films class. It was the 50's sci-fi example for the course of course.

You're right. Sorry about that. My bad.

Here you are wrong. it REALLY is a prequel. You can find this information everywhere across the web, and even the director himself said this in interviews, and he should know. "The Thing" (2011) is about what happened in the Norwegian camp. They even cast some Norwegian actors for authenticity reasons.

Nevertheless, the plot is of course the same. The thing is found by the Norwegian (and few US) scientists, brought to their camp, and soon after all hell breaks loose.

From the official website for the movie http://www.thethingmovie.net/
"The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter's classic 1982 film of the same name."

Ok?

About the Rambo game: this is the point to write "I guess we will see".

*EDIT 2* Holy shit, after watching that trailer, it DOES appear to be a remake. Let the cursing and hair pulling begin.

Wrong again. It is a prequel.

EDIT: Even if it had been a remake, it could still have been good. Carpenter's "The Thing" itself was a remake (or reboot) of "The Thing from Another World" (1951).

I keep hearing and reading it is a prequel, but look at that trailer. It appears to be almost shot for shot a remake/reboot... of course teasers/trailers are often misleading, I guess we will see.

Also in my first post, I acknowledged Carpenter's thing was a remake. I know there is some hypocrisy in any outcry over a remake/reboot/prequel of a remake, but Carpenter's 'The Thing" was badass enough to trump the usual laws of the universe.

Wasn't this thread about Rambo or something?

Wrong. Zack Snyder (he's working at "Man of Steel" at the moment) directed the "Dawn of the Dead" remake. Snyder is not directing "The Thing (2011)", whose director is Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. (Whoever that is...)

I think this one plays on a PAL system because I remember it was playing faster. I like the morse code inclusion in the song.

Might want to try this neat little thing called GOOGLE AND DO A SEARCH!

It is a prequel, and it was all shot in 35MM to match the 1982 (remake)

Not sure of the relevance of it being shot in 35mm, but that's interesting. Also the fan trailer is still a fake, and it's not the DotD guys, as others have said. Maybe Yahoo will resolve your difficulties.

Yes, I mistyped, prequel not remake, but that's arguably worse. I guess we'll see though, maybe it will turn out amazing, and not cause John Carpenter to start planning to turn over in his grave once he dies.

Here is supposedly the real trailer:

*EDIT* woops Lorcin already posted it, too late

The Thing remake is from the producers of the DotD remake, not the director of the DotD remake.

Yeah it's actually directed by pretty much a nobody - and if they announced they were remaking bionic commando and to stay in touch with the franchise were only going to use 8 bit sprites would that be a good thing?

Edit: actual trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txjm94GnrPA

Btw could somebody please teach Mary Elizabeth Winstead to act??? after Die Hard 4 and Scott Pilgrim you'd think some hollywood casting director would notice she had the emotional range of a dog turd. Yet here she is again - annoying me just in the trailer.

PS there's no way this film will be good - the isolation and paranoia is killed by the fact it's a prequel. It would also need to outgore about 95% of films before it - whilst still managing a HUGE shock factor. "The Thing" truly was the cumulation of horror, suspense and thriller genres - now they're going to "re-envision" it with a girl who can't act and over the top CG? Pass.

I'm pretty sure every single time someone tries to make a game off an old licensed property (last film notwithstanding) it ends up total crap.

Anybody remember the official Die Hard PC shooter from a few years back?

One of the first FPS games I played, back on a system having to swap disks when I jumped off the roof in game... Problem with the one I remember was it was open, so if you used to fire hose on the roof early to get down, you didn't have it at the end of the game. Never finished that game, wonder if I still have the old disks around here...

I think that would be an idea with potential. Not "Rambo" in a war, but how he was in the first movie "First Blood." In the woods setting traps for Brian Dennehy and local cops.

Dear <Whatever God(s) you hold dear>...

That is a fan made trailer, using footage from several movies, none of which are The Thing, or the Thing remake. At least read the comment below the video. Most of the footage seems to be from Kate Beckinsale's Whiteout.

On top of that, remakes/reboots of The Thing are sacrelige. John Carpenter's The Thing is arguably one of the finest horror films ever made (although yes it is itself a remake of a 1950's film ).

/end film nerd rant.
