The Prince of Persia games weren't identical remakes...they were more like series reboots.

I don't think I'd count Street Fighter either. That series has always cycled(and re-cycled) through different styles and implementations(it never really strayed too far from the original premise).

While it's true that most of these are more like HD remixes rather than complete graphical overhauls, the fact that so many publishers are making them shows that there must be a market for them. If they continue selling well, publishers will only become more likely to finance full graphical overhauls.
