Star Wars: The Old Republic Preorders [Jul 21, 2011, 11:08 am ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
Preorders are now being accepted for Star Wars: The Old Republic on the official website for BioWare's upcoming MMORPG, though these are currently restricted to customers in the North American and European territories. They offer three different editions, the Standard, Digital Deluxe (only through Origin), and a Collector's Editions. Preordering any of the three entitles the purchaser to a virtual Color Stone as well as early access to the game, though it looks like the $150.00 USD Collector's Edition is already sold out.
I admit it. I preordered. This is the kiss of death for the rest of you. Because when nin preorders, he rarely wins.

I preordered from amazon, standard ed., promo code came immediately. Registered on de website, am signed up for early game access with one click option to cancel with $0 spent. I recommend amazon for preordered this if you are skeptical.

I noticed the $150 edition also has an authenticator that looks like what WOW uses, so I expect EA to start hawking those shortly.

To be honest, I'm tempted. It's just that it seems likely it'll come out right when Skyrim is utterly dominating my every single waking moment, and that'd just fuck me up.

I've been wanting to do more of a science fiction based MMO (and not EVE), so I'm hoping this might scratch the itch for awhile. But I have no plans to raid like I did in WOW.

It's one of the reasons why I like the super-hero MMO's, they're some of the closest things to sci-fi mmo's right now so long as you make yourself look tech-ish and stay away from the magic enemies / missions.
I used to be a bigger fan of fantasy-settings as a kid: knights / swords / goblins / castles / etc. But I haven't been a major fan of that stuff in years.

Gamestop's pre-order codes won't be out for awhile, Amazon sends them out instantly, and neither is sold out. The TOR site says the order you get your code in is the order you're bought into the early play, so I went with Amazon.
TOR isn't going to fail, it's going to rock, if only because it's Bioware and SW. It may not do 12 million users, but it'll do enough to keep Bioware supporting it forever, and that's enough for me.

Like WoW, this will undoubtedly be a massive success. But that won't stop me from wishing and hoping, like I still do for WoW, it will fail miserably and die.

I'll admit, Tie Fighter is my favorite PC game of all time. And even the semi-recent recent game "Republic Commandos" was quite fun.
But I'm Star Wars'ed out. The only thing that could draw me back in would be a good / solid space flight sim like the old Tie Fighter / X-Wing / Alliance games.

Yeah, anyone have info on what exactly 'early access' mean? If it is just a 3 day head start then I don't think I'll bite, but if it's access in a week or two then yeah I am down.
Everytime I think about this game I die a little inside. Why, why couldn't they just make a traditional Knights of the Old Republic 3? KoToR 1 and 2 were really good, probably some of my favorite RPGs ever. Do we really need another god damn MMO?? The market is over-flooded with them.
Star Wars...especially KoToR doesn't fit as an MMO. Part of the appeal of Kotor was become the best Jedi/Sith Knight in the galaxy and carving your path through the storyline. Yea I can't wait to do that with TOR alongside the thousands of people doing the same thing as me. Race to the level cap!!
