No Skyrim Demo Planned

A video interview posted a couple of days back talks with Craig Lafferty at E3 about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the next installment in Bethesda's epic role-playing series. The discussion covers a few general topics, and along the way Craig admits there will be no playable demo: "No, we won't be doing a demo. With a game of this size and complexity, it's really hard to do a demo that represents the game, you know, truly. And we have to... and you know, it would be a giant demo as well, so we won't be doing a demo." Thanks Eurogamer.

Since the world is so "huge and complex", why is it that every Elder Scrolls game has been simpler and more "streamlined" then the one that preceded it?

Of course there is a demo. It will cost $50-$60 and be released on Nov 11. If you like the demo you can upgrade to the full game for free! If you don't like the demo well that is just too bad for you, thanx for the money.

Does anyone really not know what they are getting with an Elder Scrolls game? I don't see a demo really being necessary.

Ooooohhh so bitter!

I agree that the newer the Elder Scroll's game, the more mainstream it becomes. I also gotta admit that they've all been entertaining enough for me to spend hours of time on. Looking forward to the game! I just hope I won't accidentily kill some enemy with the best armor and sword tier within the first minutes of the game, though... that sucks balls.

For free? In the previous game you needed to buy two expansions and a wheelbarrow full of something called "dee ell see" to upgrade from the paid demo to the full version.

No need for a demo the 1% of the people that have never played any of the Arena/ Daggerfall/ Morrowind/ Oblivion games can go to a thing called youtube and see, or talk to their dad, about how freakn awesome these games are!

If the level scaling is still there you wont have to worry.

Don't need a demo for this game personally, anything Bethesda makes inhouse is a must buy - warts and all.

If you don't like the demo, you can wait for the community to mod the game to a graphical state that is worthy of being branded a modern PC title.

Because it would take two decades for the Skyrim team to make a world the size of Daggerfall in the level of detail they work with.

Or they could just recycle the same dungeon map over and over and over as DA2 apparently did (I'm still baffled by this.)

If the level scaling is still there you wont have to worry.

Even with the level-scaling there were particular spots that you could stumble into where there was a preset character or chest which held simply imbicile good weapons or armor that you could easily get to.

I hope that in this game... you simply get shred to freaking pieces if you enter particular areas too early -- like in Gothic.

"Giant" demo? So what if its like 10gb, theres something called broadband. And if you let steam handle demo distribution you wouldn't have to worry about getting server bandwidth either.

None of that was necessary to enjoy the game. In fact, you could get more and better content from free mods than any of the DLC from what I saw.

I think he means chopping up the game world in an open world game. It's not easy to do and they can reasonably gauge demand already so a demo doesn't serve much purpose from their perspective. I like demos as much as the next guy but these types of games rarely get decent ones, it's difficult to accurately portray gameplay without chopping the whole thing up into a closed tutorial level.
