I may switch off between streaming and DVD/Blu-Ray, if I can still maintain a DVD queue while on streaming only.

I still think Netflix is a much better deal than anything else out there. I love that advertising is almost non-existent (besides hard to skip DVD trailers and product placement).

The goal of this deal is to cut back on DVD shipments.

For the 'streaming only' package, anything over 10 bucks and I would drop Netflix altogether.

After hearing of the price changes I already cancelled streaming and have gone to 2 DVDs at a time. As long as shipping times remain as fast as they are I don't see a better deal. Last year I thought streaming was the most awesome thing they ever did but as of last month I felt I exhausted the content I cared for, unless I really care to watch ALL of Kids in the Hall. And I don't. I already have Amazon Prime simply for the shipping cost, so I'm good. If I see a better deal on straight DVD rentals, peace out Netflix!

but they do have a couple of TV shows that I've been watching off and on that I can't get anywhere else.

I'm late to the party I'm sure, but after Blue mentioned Archer earlier this year, I watched season 1 on NF and laughed my ass off...

Also having everything up to what's airing now for Futurama is awesome.

I haven't decided what to do. When it comes to getting a Blu-ray or watching it streaming, I prefer the Blu-ray. If they would stream 5.1 surround, maybe I'd watch more streaming, but I also like to watch the extra features like deleted scenes.

I don't watch enough streaming TV/movies to justify the price increase, but they do have a couple of TV shows that I've been watching off and on that I can't get anywhere else.

I'll be cancelling, but I was already going to do that anyways. I had it for my ex. I've yet to watch anything in it's entirety from Netflix. I have enough backlog of downloaded tv shows, movies and purchased Blu-Rays to keep me busy for a long time.

The selection, particularly on new releases, just isn't there for Netflix to be demanding more money from people.

You wouldn't because you're not one of the people seeing a 60% increase on their plan.

LOL.... As if "1,600 responses" is some representative of a customer base of 23 MILLION? That's less than a fraction of a percent. This isn't considering it's "according to" some random tech news site full of readers ready to rage out over such a thing.

That said, I'm very unhappy with the change myself. As others here have said, if content was significantly improved I could justify the 60% price increase of my current plan, however it isn't. Moreover I'm still a bit pissed that the Instant Watch UI change is still completely unusable over a month later and I'm still forced to resort to instantwatcher.com to find anything.

But what am I to do really? I tried Prime and it blows in terms of quality and selection. Cable/Satellite is overpriced, full of commercials, and isn't on-demand. I suppose I could pay $15/mo for a VPN or seedbox and just download everything but I was rather happy playing by their rules.

I will likely downgrade to the streaming only until I've dried up the Star Trek selection which is pretty much the only thing worth streaming that I haven't seen already and Redbox all my new releases. Feh...

I will be cancelling before the price increases.

My DSL service is not the greatest when my daughter is streaming youtube. So, the very few streaming movies I have watched have been acceptable quality, but just not worth paying the increased price. If they ever really obtain good recent movies for streaming and I get faster DSL, perhaps, I will reconsider.

My dvd selections have been dwindling down to nothing for months now.

I will just use redbox from now on.

I think they will lose money on this. Enough people will cancel (we have). Think about it. Lots of people weren't using it, and were paying. Now they were notified that their prices will increase, and they will cancel.

They keep jerking around their customer base. To bad Blockbuster shut its doors in this area.

My wife and I agreed to drop down to streaming only since our current 12 dollar plan with dvds+streaming would raise by over 5 dollars a month if we left it as is.

We will give it a month...if we aren't using it or it fails to deliver newer titles I might as well drop it all together. I can get movies from so many different providers at this point that if they are going to make it a pain in the ass AND more expensive..what is the bloody point?

Oh, and the Starz thing is a joke. It has a fixed schedule. Why in the world would I consider that a "plus" or even an incentive to subscribe? If I want scheduled TV I can stick to DirecTV. The whole point of Netflix is to watch it when I want to...adding a service with a schedule (and PC only as well..no watching it on my PS3, Wii, or iPad) is just dumb.....at least from my perspective.

Bottom line: I have never had a problem with price increases when content increases, or even the quality of the content improves. That doesn't seem to be the case here. I don't think 40% will actually quit, but I imagine quite a few will....if for no other reason then to see what "discount" offers Netflix sends them in an attempt to get them back as customers. Not a bad idea actually.

Well as far as what people say they are going to do in a poll, the last line of the article says it all:

What people say in the heat of the moment isn't what they'll often do.

I'd be surprised if Netflix sees a 15% drop. At the rate at which streaming market is growing they'll make that back up before year's end I'm guessing.

Was reading a poll regarding netflix where they said 40% planned to close, now it's 60%?

The only thing I plan on changing the the dvd rental by mail service. I'm giving that up and stick with the $8 a month plan. My hope is that netflix will adjust down the purchases of new releases so substantially that movie studios will shit their pants.

Selection is steadily improving and it's easy enough to supplement Netflix's catalog with something like Hulu. The media companies have unfortunately spread their content all over the goddamn place, there is no universal solution. Even cable now lacks access to many things without special packages and other bullshit. I doubt you'll ever see a service that has access to everything and lets you pick/choose. It's a shame because that's exactly what people want and why they were driven to downloading TV shows and streaming. The media companies sadly don't get it.

Personally I prefer Usenet TV stuff, its way cheaper and I get everything in HD, commercial free but obviously its a less than "legitimate" source.

The bold part is where my issue with Netflix is. For me, streaming has been worthless. I've decided to go ahead and cancel my membership. I'll come back if and when the selection ever improves.

Netflix streaming selection is still fucking awful. The only good movies they get to stream are still the ones from the Starz Play deal, and they don't update the selection nearly often enough.

Being able to choose when and where to watch what you want is priceless compared to traditional cable. Most cable STBs are utter horseshit and TiVo is expensive itself.

I don't care at all since I've only been a streaming customer since I signed up. Nothing changes for me. Netflix still beats the pants off of any Cable or Satellite provider anywhere as far as I'm concerned.
