I used to use Creative Audigy 2 ZS sound card, but my newer motherboard didn't have a PCI slot so I had to stop using it. I decided to use the RealTek onboard audio, but man it sucks due to lower bass even with Logitech Z-2300 speakers (2.1 setup and analog). I still use old XP Pro. SP3 as well.

Does this Xonar have hardware EAX? Wait, do newer games even support it? I know older games do. I don't play games that much these days like I used to so it wouldn't matter. I just wanted more bass.

I'll go against the grain here, I've used a Xonar DX in the past and couldn't discern a noticeable difference between it and onboard audio with my AudioTechnicas.

If you want real sound you'll probably pipe it out to a HT or better dedicated amp anyway.

What do you think of your card?

Was considering buying one of these because of the bleh onboard audio I have been using, but it's hard to justify the money these days.

Im running Xonar Essence ST with DT880's and the sound is mind blowing, too many people neglect good sound by claiming onboard is sufficient.

I have Xonar DX. It's WAY better than my onboard card thanks to dolby headphone support, and it actually does LFE crossover correctly (unlike cheapo realtek chips) so I get much better bass when using speakers. In terms of signal clarity - i can't really tell, but the reviews indicate that it's much better. :/

All my future builds will have a Xonar for sure.

I've had a Xonar DX for a few years now, and I agree completely. With any decent speakers or headphones you'll immediately notice a huge difference in sound quality.

These drivers aren't up on the main support page yet, so I'll wait until they make it there before I try them out.

Above comments = QFT

I have one and the difference in sound quality from the onboard chip on my mobo is significant.

I have mine set up on a 5.1 analog speaker system.

I haven't run across any problems with it. It supports eax2.0, has a good dsp processor, and support dolby natively.

The drivers will default to the front panel, or randomly change to the factory default speaker config on each reboot. Mostly seems to happen under x64 versions of Win7.

These drivers do indeed seem to fix the front panel/surround settings resetting on reboot.
